Fire Department Orders Pump Twenty-one firemen and their guests attended the bar becue dinner given by the group at Don’s Outpost Mon day evening and heard their work praised by the principal speaker for the occasion, Ma jor W. B. Stone. At the meeting following the dinner the group voted to purchase a pump to be mount ed on a truck which can be used as a water wagon or a street flusher. This will en able the Black Mountain Fire Department to offer better service to those areas outside which are not within range of a fire hydrant. The street flusher has long been one of the key needs of the town and a great deal of work has been done toward securing these services. Cost of the pump is $il7, which will be paid by the Volunteer Fire Depart ment. At the meeting Chief Don Wallin of the Oteen VA hos pital gave a talk on fire pre vention and training, lie of tered to assist with a train ing program which the local department will start soon —The worst traffic acci dent ever to occur in N'orth < arolina killed 21 persons.
