We know there will al ways be a beautiful arrange ment of some kind. \\ e were here for six years and not a Sunday of that time were they absent. Mrs. R. L. May lived next door to the church. She grew and arranged them through those years. It was a real labor of love for her. The church and its activities were her life. She and Roy were faithful, valuable mem bers as loop as they lived. Her mantle fell on Mrs. Eu gene Moore, who really has a green thumb. Such beautiful arrangements could not be surpassed anywhere. It is a great blessing to us all to see such talents put to this good sendee. On Monday afternoon of the past week the Maripn Cow herd Intermediate G.A. held its last meeting of the church HOW DOES CHRISTIAN SCIENCE HEAL? Attend this FREE lecture by Robert S. With an enrollment of seven, the girls have maintained an av ■erage attendance of six for the entire year. Other high grade averages were also at tained. A check of the Aims for Advancement chart showed that the Auxiliary is eligible for the Honor G.A. award— the highest award given by Woman's Missionary Union. This fine group is composed of the following girls: Deanna Belcher, Barbara Bradley, Ann Moore, Janice Peek, Joan Tipton and Sandra Wright. Mrs. Lillian Gallamore is giving over to Mrs. Larson, the Dorothy Lawton Jr. G.A. —the twelve year old group. Mrs. Gallamore has had them for nearly eight years and has done for them, and with them, an outstanding piece of work. They made the advanced grade this year, missing by only two points the honor grade. The worship service on Sun day morning was a very meaningful one. The pastor used as his topic: “Building a Life.” He emphasized God as the Architect, and pointed out that those who would build wisely must heed His com mands and His warnings. The Sunday night service was a discussion of Barnabas, the son of exhortation. It was emphasized that peo ple all around us need en couragement.. We may light en many a load with a word. Each one has his burdens. The plea was for us to be the kind of Christian that Barnabas was. Officers and Teachers of Sunday school will meet Wed nesday at 6 p.m. at the church. There will be a covered dish supper. On Tuesday morning at 1():J0 at the home of Mrs. W. L. Hatcher the Women’s Mis sionary society came together for their study on “World Evangelism: Overseas.” Mrs. Tom Walters directed the study. She was assisted by Mrs. W. L. Hatcher in Portu guese costume who gave in teresting facts about Latin America, by Mrs. R. E. Trues dell in Chinese dress, who spoke of the Orient, and by Mrs. E. F. Hardin who touch ed on Africa, Europe and the Year East, and by Mrs. W. P. Reeves who gave some facts about world conditions today. A covered dish meal was brought and served at the noon hour. On Friday evening the Young Adult Training Union met at the home of Mrs. Mill er Jackson and went hearing small gifts, to the homes of our two young couples so re cently residents on our hill. After their warm welcome to these young people, they went over to Paul Turner’s home for a spaghetti supper. This 1960 Ford Galaxie Town Victoria shares the ail-new styling characteristics of the other lord models, yet bears unmistakable resemblance to the elegant Tliunderbird profile. The new Galaxie is one inch lower than the 1959 model, but has more interior room for six big persons than ever before. The Galaxie also is available as a two-or four-door sedan. All Fords for 1960 have the slim-line, for ward sloping front roof pillar that eliminates the “dog leg” for easier entry. This group is very much in terested in starting a recrea tion program for the youth of our church. They have ac cepted the challenge of start ing a fund looking' toward building some outdoor equip ment at the church. Those of you who read this may feel led to give some assistance in some way. Our youth are the hope of our churches. We do not need to let the world furnish all their recreation. On Monday night Mrs. Hat cher led the Bible study at Mills Baptist Chapel in Black Mountain, beginning the study of Proverbs. My mother used to say, when 1 was learning to sew: "Be sure you are right and then go ahead.” This is sure ly a good rule to follow in everything. Last week 1 said that Mr. and Mrs. Stevens were who they weren’t: Mr. Stevens is the uncle of Mrs. Jimmie Hay instead of her father. Anyway we are glad they are who they are and we are happy to have them a mong us. Mr. and Mrs. D. R. Hill of Duncan, S. C., spent several days at their home on Buckner road this past week. Thornburg with Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Waller of Matthews, N. C., spent the week-end in the Thornburg home here. I won der if any of you have read Mr. Thornburgh book "The Thread of My Life.” It is a book that will appeal to all who like plain humor and comment. Miss Myrtle Ferguson from Durham stopped by to speak to the Jollays on Sunday p.m. A group from Kdgemont church in Durham had been over to Cherokee to take clothing to our Baptist Mis sion there. Those who know only the Ridgecrest of the summer wonder what we, who live here, do with our time in the other nine months of the year. We have a marvelous com munity. We are always “sor ter" glad when the summer is over so we can have time to cultivate the great spirit in our midst. There is never a dull moment, at least, not for me. There just is not enough time to do all the nice things I want to do. People are the most interesting things in the world. In the mad rush of today many have forgotten that. , In reaching after the baubles out yonder, let us realize there are rare jawels just next door, or down the hill, or in the next cove. We are so grateful for our Ridge crest and for the people in it. Helen Oate-s, Mi,., , sr* Guests were m Nicholson and Mi V hffe.
