Mrs. Ilea Glover and Mrs. Luna Hamby of Ilea’s Beauty Shop attended the Carolina Beauty and Harvest Festival at Hotel Charlotte, Charlotte, from last Sunday through Tuesday. This is an annual event held in Charlotte. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Green wood and sons. Buddy and Ricky, were in Chapel Hill Saturday to attend a luncheon at the Morehead Planetarium for the state legislators and the State,-Carolina football game. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Beddingfield were her sisters. Mrs. C. E. James of Warsaw. X. C., and Mrs. ,L I. Thomas and son Joe, of Dunn. X. ('. They were ac companied by friends who were planning to enter their son at Mars Hill college. Mr. ■ and Mrs. Oliver Alex ander ami son Bill spent the week-end with friends in Ra leigh. They attended the State-Carolina game at Chapel Hill Saturday. Mrs. Edith van Kamp of Lakewood, Fla., formerly of Chicago, has purchased a du plex home on View street at Montreat road and will arrive in early October to take up residency here. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Garland and family of Enka visited his sister, Mrs. Andrew Milovitz and Mr. Milovitz last Sunday. Mrs. S. M. MacDowell has returned from a two weeks’ visit with her mother in Washington. D. C. Dr. and Mrs. Herbert Daugherty visited members of Mrs. Daugherty’s family in Nashville, Tenn., over the week-end. Captain and Mrs. H. B. Rroadfoot expect to leave this week-end for a week’s visit with their children in New York. Cpl. and Mrs. J. D. Good man and son David of Wash ington, 1). C.. spent the week end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Goodman and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Patton of Swannanoa. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller of Key West, Fla., visited his brothers, Francis W. and Ken neth Miller, last week. Mr. and Mrs. George A. I.. Cook have returned to their home in Sarasota. Fla., after spending several months at their home near Christmount. Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Miller left last Wednesday to spend the winter months in Foun tain City, Tenn. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Kerlee recently spent * a few days with their daughter, Mrs. Robert Headley, and children of Dayton, Ohio, while Dr. Headley was on a short mis sion with the Air Force in Germany. Captain and Mrs. Hugh R. Stevens spent last week in Raleigh visiting their daugh ter and family, Mr. and Mrs. George Drake and two chil dren. Cpl. Braska Odom of Fort Jackson, S. C., spent the week end here with members of his family. Mr. and Mrs. ,1. B. Dotson and daughter, Miss Carolyn Dotson, visited the Dotsons' other daughter, Miss Donna Dotson at Brevard college last Sunday. Mrs. A. R. Clarke has re turned to her home in Maul din. S. after spending three weeks with her son, Harry Clarke and family. The Clarkes drove her home last Sunday. Lock, well known in Black Mountain art circles, was appointed resident art teacher at DeBary, Fla., to serve for three weeks, which she has just completed with great success. She gave a demonstratim explaining how to paint a still life to a large appreciative group of art loving people. It is interesting to know that the Florida Federation of Art has at last established its headquarters in the historical Count Frederick De Bary mansion, which has been deed ed as a gift to the Florida Federation of Art for their first state headquarters anil art center. DeBary is six miles from Sanford. Fla. The mansion is a two-story Georgia colonial house with 17 i l'ooms in addition to its ball- j room, dining looms, and liv ing rooms, which are won derful for conducting art j classes. It is surrounded by two acres of land- aped property! on Lake Monroe, which is part of the St. John's River. This art center was opened on July 12, since which time nationally known teachers have been appointed to con duct the classes Additional teachers will be invited to as sist during the winter. ('.. spent last Sunday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Herman Saunders. Mr. and Mrs. De Shields are for mer residents of Black Moun tain. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Farr, who have been residing in Rock Hill, S. C'., for some time, have returned to Ashe ville to make their home. Jack is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Farr, Black Mountain. Members of the Black Moun tain Woman’s club will join with club women of Frank- | lin, N. C., on a tour of Wash ington, I). C., and New York City for one week, leaving Black Mountain via train Thursday. Oct. 20 Mrs. W. 11. McMurray, Sr., president, is in charge of details. Mr. and Mrs. H. McGuire Wood are expecting to leave Friday to spend several days at Pawleys Island. Mr. and Mrs. Gorman E. Mattison of Charlotte, former residents of Black Mountain, will join them there. The Mattisons were at the Monte Vista hotel for a short stay over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Shep herd and their niece, Miss Kimbell of West Jefferson, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. R. Jurwitz last Sun day. Mrs. I. F. Mims has re turned to her home in St. George, S. ('., after visiting her daughter. Mrs. H. D. Crawford and Mr. Crawford for some time. The Craw fords drove Mrs. Mims home. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Sayles recently moved from the Rice ville road to the Herman Saunders cottage on Ninth street.
