W W arhorses Trim Enka Coach Ralph Singleton’s Owen High cagers opened the ! second half of the season in impressive fashion Tuesday ; night by downing Enka, 55 to 43. The Enka girls eked out a thrilling 39 to 37 victory 1 over Gene Byrd’s Warlassies. Both games were close all the way and had the specta tors standing as much as they were sitting throughout. Owen will play Biltmore High school here in a twinbill Enday evening, and will travel to North Buncombe for a re turn engagement with the Hawks on Tuesday, Jan. 12. After Enka led by one point, 22-21, at the half, the Warlassies fought hard but failed to come up with the winning combination. High scorers for Owen were Sher lin with 14 and White with 13. The Warhorses had a 26-24 buige at the half and went on from there to victory. Pacing the winners were Bobby Lowe with 16 and Bill Horne with 15. My sister-in-law, Mrs. Mau die Elliott, widow of the late Bucker Elliott, and son Hor ace of Rutherfordton visited us last Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harris of Black Mountain visited Mrs. Harris’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Taft Elliott, last Sunday. Mrs. Paul Smith is a patient in Marion hospital. Mrs. Flossy Vess has a bad ly injured hand caused in an accident at her home last week. We were glad to have R. G. Ownbey and daughter Alice with us for choir practice at Stone Mountain church last Sunday evening. James (Jake) Gilliam, Law rence and Marcus Elliott, who have been spending the holi days with their parents, have returned to their army base at Fort Jackson, S. C. Rev. and Mrs. Paul Hyder and daughter Sandra of Swan nanoa visited us last Sunday afternoon. Vewitt Elliott is doing some carpenter work for Mr. and Mrs. James Davis on upper Cedar Creek. Mrs. Eula Mae Morris and sons Gerald, Taylor, and Da vid. left Christmas Day for a two weeks’ stay in Florida. They were overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Ed mondson and sons, Bobby and Dickey, in Starke, Fla., leav ing next day for West Palm Reach. Saturday night they were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Coachman; luncheon guests of the Rev. and Mrs. A. E. Carter on Sunday; luncheon guests of Mrs. E. D. Hart, and dinner guests of Mrs. Jewell Swartznan and ■son Bill on Tuesday; Wednes day they were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Baker and son David. Thursday night a grilled steak supper was enjoyed in the patio with the B. A. Coach man family, Shelia Russel and James Burkett.
