The captain laughed and said that he and the steward planned to fatten us up and charge $10 per pound for ev ery pound we gain. They will collect and split the jack pot. Some such scheme must be a foot for I never saw more de lectable food in such quanti ties—grilled New York Steak to order, baked Virginia ham with Mushroom sauce, roast tom turkey with fresh fruits and vegetables in abundance, and milk! How I enjoy the fresh milk! The captain said he kept his cows in the hold and expected the passengers to go down at 4 a.m. each morning and milk them. When we took on 12,000 tons of raw sugar w’e asked what they did with the cows for the milk is still in abundance. The first meal I had on board I ordered milk. A whole quart was placed beside my plate with a Chinese mess boy to keep fill ing my glass as the milk dis appeared. I drank the whole quart. Since then a quart of good, cold milk is placed be side my plate at each meal, without ordering. Good thing our $250.00 we paid in Hono lulu for passage to Galveston included everything. We have plenty of room— two comfortable lounges, with TV and a library filled with interesting books, a writing room with stationary, etc., and plenty of comfortable deck chairs. We have plenty of decks to walk .-the main deck, below us; the boat deck, where we are; the officers deck; the navigation deck and the flying bridge where we go for sun bathing and star gazing. We left Honolulu on March 1), went up to Nawiliwili, on Kauai, where we took on more raw sugar. While this was being loaded the seven pass engers went ashore, got a sight-seeing bus and a good guide, whose name was Kamu elakakinupokipsalepeahu but we called him Sam for short. He wore very gay aloha shirt, a big straw hat—three feet across and turned up at the edges and a big high crown. He said it keeps the rain off as well as the sun. 1 should hope so! Sam is a native Hawaiian with a native ac cent, who has been a guide for 4.'i years. He kept us roaring with laughter the entire day SPECIAL! Knight's Pharmacy WALGREEN AGENCY DIAL NO 9-3331 Black Mountain, N C as he took us to see beautiful Hawaii-awe inspiring canyons, wet caves, dry caves, mountain crags, and lovely beaches. We visited the beach where South Pacific was filmed and saw for ourselves that the coloring ir. that film had not been ex aggerated. It is beautiful be yond words. We had a most delightful lunch at Coco Palms hotel, where the beauties of Hawaii were emphasized in lovely lanai bed rooms, living rooms, dining rooms. The buffet luncheon was very col orful with food served from miniature catamorans and serf boards with coconut shells for ash trays, cocoanut hats for lamp shades and mess boys around in colorful aloha shirts and pretty girls in colorful dresses with hibiscus flowers in their hair. We were given orchid corsages as favors and giggled together to see the powder rooms labeled 'Queens’ and 'Kings.’ (To be continued) Bee Tree News By MRS. C. M. HOWIE Rt.
