vybAiiif About You 5 By Heinz Rollman | This has truly been a most wonderful campaign and I owe thanks to a great many people. There must have been a hundred restaurants and drive-ins where I stopped at night, where the owner invited me for a free cup of coffee. In many places when I ate lunch or supper my money wasn’t accept ed, but I was told to con sider the meal a campaign contribution. Gas stations have fixed my V-belt and air condi tioning in the car free. I have "been treated with more kindness and friend liness than anyone can im agine or anyone deserves. (I must make a confession to the Secretary of State that I did not list in my campaign expense report as contributions the free things to which I have been invited. I hope I won’t end up in jail). I must also thank the many, many precinct chair men' all over our district who have been so gener ous with their time, who have arranged meetings to enable me to meet as many people as possible. And I must thank the Republican Party organization from the bottom of my heart for they have accepted me in a friendly and kind spirit and have treated me fair in every7 respect. My thanks also go out to the newspapers, radio and TV stations who have car ried my advertising in a prompt and fine way and who were courteous and civic minded in reporting about my activities and ideas also in their news columns. I am also grateful be yond description to the thousands of good people who have written me en couraging letters, who call ed me to wish me hick and assured me of then support in the general campaign, irrespective oi their present party affilia tion. Last, but not least, want to say thank you b my opponent in the pri mary who has fully livec up to our understanding that ours will be an abso lutelv clean primary cam paign. What a great pity that not more people become candidates in primaries in our wonderful land. Pri maries, just like elections, do create a great deal of interest and bring the can didates closer to the peo ple and the people closer to their future servants. In spite of communism and in spite of Khrushchev, the future for our nation is brighter than ever in our history. We are now united as we have rarely been be fore. We are truly the united people of the Unit ed States of America. Tru ly God's own country. We united people will not be put down on our knees by Khrushchev or any of his successors. Our skills our spirit, our love for human ity and our sense of fair play will ultimately spread to the far corners of this world if we always remain aware of the fact that our country has the greatest, most wonderful mission any nation has ever had. WE WILL STRENGTH EN OUR BILL OF RIGHTS AS WE EXPAND ON OUR BILL OF OBLIGATIONS. Regardless for whom you vote on either ticket, when you mark your ballot or push the lever on the voting machine, remember it has to be done twice— one for the short term and one for the regular term. Be sure to ask the election officials, who know. Rollman —Paid Political Ad. FOR ATHLETE'S FOOT FSE KEKATOLYTIC ACTION BECAUSE— It sloughs off the infected skin. Thursday, May 19 Mr. Ralph Cauthen and Miss Howard from Furman University spent Friday at Ridgecrest. Major Sara W. Bunn spent last week with her aunt, Miss Mary Speight. Major Bunn is with the American Nurses’ Corps, Governor’s Island, N. Y. Miss Josephine P o t e, who spent the winter with Miss Mary, is now visiting in Toronto, Canada. Mrs. Right C Moore was brought home from the hos pital last Tuesday. We are so thankful to have her back in Ridgecrest. She is still unable to be up. People in the community have been good to go in and sit while Norma gets out a little. Mrs. Ted Allred, Dr. Moore’s niece and nurse at Moore General, goes in each afternoon to do what she can. In talking to Mrs. C. V. Gray this morning she said that on Monday Earl’s chil dren found a big rattler while playing in the yard. They called their father and Mr. Gray also appeared on the HOW DOES CHRISTIAN SCIENCE HEAL? Now they are on the lookout for the mate which they fear is lurk ing somewhere around. On Tuesday Miss Arvine Bell entertained the women of the office staff at cook out at noon over at Crest ridge. Over the week-end the Stimsons had a real family house party. Their guests were Mr. and Mrs. Myron G. Adams of Sarasota, Fla. They came from Raleigh where they had been to attend the graduation of their son, My ron G., Jr., from State college. Myron, Jr., will go with his family to Tampa, Fla., soon to take a position with the Borden Company. The other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Ernest A. Bennett, Bill, Laurie Jane, and Anne from Charlotte. Mr. Bennett is Mrs. Stimson’s nephew. Many friends will be glad to have a word from Dr. and Mrs. George Green, emeritus missionaries from Africa. They are living with a daugh ter in Danville, Va. She says Dr. Green is better than when they went to Danville a year ago. They are in the rolling section of Virginia and Mrs. Green says some parts of it remind them of the mountains of Ridgecrest. This came in a letter to the Hatchers. Dr. and Mrs. Green were our first medical missionaries to Africa. They were pioneers in a very hard field. A few years ago they went back to be in the celebration of fifty years of medical work in Af rica by Southern Baptists. For several years after their retirement they occupied “Rock Rest.” Their address is 140 Confederate Ave., Dan ville, Va. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Beiers from Greenwood, S. C., are spending the wTeek at their home here. Accompanying them are Mrs. Ella Pinson Mrs. Alma Collins, and Mrs The pastor and his wift are attending the Souther! Baptist Convention in Miami i Fla. Then they plan to taki an additional week of vaea tion in the “Sunshine State.’ In the pastor’s absenee th< Rev. Henry O. Hearn will fil the pulpit. Mrs. Ralph Trues dell will give a report on tin Leadership Training pchoo ,'hicn she attended in Evans on, 111. On Friday Mr. and Mrs Usher from Black Mountai: and Dr. \'. Ward Barr, wh was holding the revival a First Church, had dinner witi Mrs. Tom Walters. On Sunday Mrs. Della Hursl Mrs. Ralph Truesdell, and were dinner guests of th Hardins. At this writing the heart of all Ridgecrest people ar saddened by the home going o Mrs. Hight C Moore. We ar not sad for her, but for out selves, and for the vaean place that is left in our com munity. We were here who Dr. and Mrs. Moore retired from the Sunday School Board in 1943, just a few weeks af ter their son Joe’s death. What a privilege to have them in our midst! Mrs. Moore taught the Women’s Bible class and was also our pianist. Her brilliant mind, her keen sense of humor, her deep con secration have been a constant challenge to us. In all the work of our denomination she stood shoulder to shoulder with her illustrious husband. No word of mine can add any thing to her beautiful life. It was lived among us as an open book. I shall miss sadly her weekly telephone calls just to see if I were all right. I am sure many others will miss that too. On Thursday the W.C.T.U. met at Mrs. Hatcher’s and Mrs. Moore sent her dues for the year 1960-61. She was keenly in terested in others up to the very last. Our hearts go out to Norma as she makes ad justments. We have never known a more devoted daugh ter. She reminds everybody of Ruth of the Bible. It is such a hard thing for those of us who are older, to see “the old order changing yielding place to new." In the pro gress of life this is necessary; and we say with a prayer in our hearts'” 0 Thou who changeth not, abide with me." In the absence of the pas tor, Mr. Larsen, who, after the convention in Miami, was taking a tour of our mission fields in Cuba, a former pas tor, the Rev. Cecil Perry had charge of the services assisted by Dr. Clifton J. Al len from the Sunday School Board. And so ends the hu man life of one of God’s great servants; but its influences will go out on the waves of time until they break on eter nity’s shore. Miss Lois Carter and her mother from Spartanburg, S. C., spent the week-end in their home here. Mr. and Mrs. Miles O. Thornburg and his brother Mr. Love Thornburg from Gastonia are spending some time in Mr. Thornburg’s cot tage. Rev. and Mrs. Roger Snipes from Greer, S. C., spent Thursday afternoon and eve ning with the Hardin’s at “Hills of Home.” Mrs. Jennie Fleming Sev erance, my cousin from Ashe ville, spent Friday night with me. She goes Friday to Meredith college to attend her 50th graduation anniversary. She worked in hospitals in World War One, and is still doing a great deal of nursing. She surely demonstrates that age is a matter of outlook and interest. Mrs. B. S. Meeks and her sister, Miss Edith Van Duzer have returned from an exten sive trip thru Texas and north thru Illinois. They went by jet plane to Nederland, Tex., the latter part of March to visit Mrs. Meeks’ son, Carl. I wonder how many have seen the flowers growing around the home of Mrs. Georgie Blanton and also of her sister, Mrs. Grace Kin- | caid. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. G. Aden Bur gin. Their mother loved flow ers and worked in her garden day after day. Georgie’s and Grace’s gardens are like little memorials to her. It is an in spiration to see gardens grown for the beauty of the flowers and not just for show. There are many such gar dens arouund us. Miss Edna Ziegler has hundreds and hun dreds of lilies of the valley blooming now beside her house. Cars fly by, on the sadly, but again it is the end of an era. With their out look and love for people they will find new interests to fill their lives. Mrs. Bill Greene, Command er Greene’s wife, from Salis bury spent a few hours in Ridgecrest last week. Her plans are to be here in July sometime. Mac and Ann e Burnette spent several days visiting Mac’s nephew, Haywood Trot ter, in Charlotte last week. A good group of people from Knoxville, Tenn., were at the Knox Lodge Friday and Saturday cleaning and getting things ready for the opening of the Assembly. Mr. and Mrs. William E.
