Louis V. Sutton, CP&L pres ident, speaking before the an nual stockholder meeting in Raleigh, cited the above fig ures from a nation-wide pow er survey released only this week by the Edison Electric Institute in New York City. The survey, based on exten sive field studies throughout the nation, predicted power re quirements within the next years would increase to four times the 1959 level. Predict ed growth for the Southeast, however, placed the 1980 de mand at five times the old figure—or 25 per cent great er than the average for the nation as a whole. Sutton said the company will continue building to meet this growing power demand. CP&L estimates a construc tion budget of .$180,000,000 for the next five years, that would brjng the company’s post-war expansion expendi tures to more than $432,000, 000. Hezekiah Davis Hezekiah Davis, 96, 0f Wal nut, father of Mrs. Neal Price of Black Mountain, died at his home Thursday, May 19. Fun eral services were held Fri day afternoon in the Walnut Free Will Baptist church. The Rev. Walter Wilson officiat ed. Burial was in the Walnut cemetery. Melvin L. Money Melvin L. Maney, 87, of 9 Hickory terrace, Asheville, father of Mrs. Stanley Gar land of Black Mountain, died Tuesday, May 17, in an Ashe ville hospital following a short illness. Funeral services were held in the chapel of Groce Funer al home with the Rev. A. J. Cox officiating. Burial was in Green Hill cemetery. Mr. Maney was a native of Buncombe county and had lived in this section nil of his life. He retired i.n 1945 as a dairy inspector with the City Health department. Ear lier he had served as city tax collector for two years. He was a member of the Trinity Methodist church, where he took an active part for more than 45 years.
