Friends here were sorry to learn of the death of Mrs. Ollie Daugherty in Spring field, N. J. Mrs. Daugherty had lived in this community for many years before mov ing to New Jersey. Mr. and Mrs. T. D. Daugh erty attended the baccalaur eate service at Allen High school Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Lizzie Wells and Mrs. Cora Stepp remain on the shut-in list, let us not forget to remember these two fine ladies with a visit or phone call. We were all very happy to •see Mrs. Inez Daugherty home from the hospital and doing so well. Each day 1 have a small visitor little Bobby Lee Staf ford, age 2, who stops in and gets his daily piece of gum. Bobby chats about the things he has seen around and about the Carver school, and its re markable to know that some one so young observes and remembers the many things that happen each day. Mrs. Mary Fortune and Marvin Hamilton, teachers of the junior boys and girls, re ceived both banners for at tendance and collection in Sun day school last Sunday. 1 was real sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. H. C. Moore of Ridgecrest. I lived in Ridgecrest about 25 years and my family and I loved and considered Mrs. Moore as one of our great friends. Free Lecture On Christian Science Set How the power of Chid set forth in the Bible brings peace and harmony will be the topic of a free lecture on Christian Science to he given here Tuesday, May 31 by Florence Middaugh of Los Angeles. Miss Middaugh will speak in East ball room George Van derbilt hotel, Asheville, at 8 p.m. under the auspices of First Church of Christ, Scien tist, Asheville. Her subject will be Christian Science: Its Promise and Fulfillment. The lecture is free, and local mem bers have invited the public to attend. A native of Colorado, Miss Middaugh is currently on a nationwide speaking tour as a member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship. Prior to entering the public practice of Christian Science healing, she was active in the musical profession. An auth orized teacher of Christian Science, she has devoted her full time for a number of years to Christian Science activities. BROAD RIVER by Mrs. M. M. Elliott Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Elliott of Broad River section at tended the birthday party giv en for Claude Mitchell at his home on Moffitt Hill last Sun day. Mr. Mitchell received several nice gifts, and a de licious picnic dinner was serv ed to his relatives, friends, and neighbors. Also Mr. and Mrs. Elliott paid a short visit to Mr. and Mrs. .1. R. Har ris Sunday afternoon. Miss Ann Morris was dinner guest of Rev. and .Mis. Paul Hyder and children at Swan nanoa last Sunday. Richard Smith of the U. S. Army ar rived last Sunday morning for a visit, with his wife Ger trude and little son Charles. Lawrence Elliott of the L*. S. Army spent the week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Taft. Elliott, and sister Lois ; in this section. Luna Gilliam and his moth er. Mrs. Mae Gilliam, visited us one evening' last week. Several folks of Stone Mountain church attended the revival at Davis Town Free will Baptist church in the Crooked Creek section last ■ week. The memorial service was conducted at Macedonia Bap tist church, Route 1, Nebo, ; last Sunday. Rev. Cecil Smith is pastor. Lewis Elliott and daughter Verda visited Lewis’ daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hudgins, and daugh ters in Black Mountain last . week. We were glad to have Richard and Paul Smith of this section and T. R. Dodd of t’oles Cove for Sunday school and preaching service at Stone Mountain church last Sun day. My son Yewitt and 1 attend ed prayer service at Mrs. Het tie Gilliam’s home in the Broad River section Sunday afternoon. There will be a communion and foot-washing service at Mrs. Hettie Gilliam’s next Saturday evening at 7:30, May 28. Everyone is invited. Mrs. Gilliam’s daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Lavender, who have been liv ing with Mrs. Gilliam since her husband, Ed Gilliam, passed away some time ago, have moved into a trailer home on Mrs. Gilliam’s farm recently. Miss Alice Ownbey, who underwent surgery in an Ashe ville hospital recently, has re turned to her home in this community and is doing well. Mr. and Mi's. Thompson of Columbia, S.
