C. young men is to be highly commended for the many good deeds he is doing. He is Marvin Hamilton, dea con, Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, and emplo yee at Beacon Manufacturing Co. For the past two years he has taken time from his busy schedule to aid Stella Copeland, an elderly blind woman in the Lytle Cove sec tion. Stella lost her sight sev eral years ago, and cannot get to the spring for water, so after work each day we see Marvin with two large pails carrying fresh water and help ing her in so many other ways. Marvin also takes great in terest in our young people. Each Saturday afternoon he gets his truck and drives about in the community getting chil dren to play ball over in the Brookside area. These chil dren enjoy the Saturday ball games so much that we find them doing their chores early, so that they are ready when Marvin comes around. Another good doer is Tom Daugherty who is especially interested in our smaller chil dren. Tom and his wife Mar garet don’t have children of their own but have adopted a number of children in this community. It is known of Tom to shop each week for an assortment of cookies to fill the large jar for children that stop in daily. Tom lives high on the hill at Hill Crest street, and many afternoons we see Tom and the children on the lawn having cookies and milk and chatting. About the events of the day. One little girl re marked: Oh! the good ole cookie jar. The best cookie jar in the world! Other chil dren affectionately call Tom’s house, “The Cookie House.” Tom sees to it that each child has clean hands, and that they must have good man ners before receiving cookies each day. In talking with Tom I learned that having the children was the high light of his day. He has so often stat ed that it takes such a little to make a child happy, and what wonderful blessings he receives in return. We’re hap py to have folks like Tom and Marvin in our community.
