Besides tournaments in croquet, checkers, chess, table tennis, bocce, shuffle board. paddle tennis, tether ball, and badminton, the youth of Black Mountain joined in the following activities: scoop, frisbie. quoits. horseshoes, softball, volleyball, touch foot ball. soccer, carroms, domi noes, darts, sand sculpture, crafts, arts, snap, authors, rummy, hearts, pinochle, Chin ese checkers, bowling, box hockey, battleship, folk tales, movies, film strips and slides. There were hikes, too. the first to Mt. Lookout, then Greybeard, a trip over Rain bow Trail by another group, a visit to Dr. Snyder's lab oratory in Montreat, a hike down the ridge to Old Fort, and finally the hike down the old dirt road by Andrew’s Geyser with a picnic, and the tun of returning bv train from Old Fort. Remember the rocket on Operation Youth’s July fourth float? <tn the front of the float the wording, “Recrea tion Special", on the rocket. "Going Places", and on the rear of the float "Fun Bound”.
