NEWS from the CRAGMONT COMMUNITY —By Lib Harper— Phone NO 9-3028 On Wednesday of last week I called to chat w ith Mrs. Mar garet Daugherty who had just returned from a vacation in New York. Margaret had such a good time and was so excit ed about her trip that I sat spellbound for quite a while as she related to me some of the interesting places she went, the people she visited, and the wonderful Chinese and Italian fond she enjoyed. Margaret spent the first four days with Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Rutherford of New Rochell. Mrs. Rutherford is a former resident of this com munity and a daughter of the ate Mrs. Carrie Lytle. Mrs. Daugherty then spent four days with Dr. and Mrs. Mallie C. Taylor of Wyan daneh, L. I. Mrs. Taylor is the daughter of Mrs. Willie Gardner, and granddaughter of Mrs. Mary Stepp. She to is a former resident of this community. From the Tay lors Mrs. Daugherty visited Mr. and Mrs. Ed Murphy of X. Y. City; Mrs. Murphy, the former Lillian Hardy of Old Fort was employed here many years by Misses Susan and Mary Hooker. A number of you may recall that due to the long stay with the Hookers she was often called Lillian Hooker. Margaret also visited a number of other former res idents of this area. They were Mrs. Janet Tobin Stepp, daug hter of the late Eddie Stepp, Normal. Long, Mrs. Myrte King and sister who were res idents of Old Fort, Mrs. Bessie Rutherford, niece of Mrs. Les ter Stepp, Mr. and Mrs. Car nial Cumberback: she also talked with members of the Adam Clayton Powell family. Margaret enjoyed the cute parakeet of the Rutherfords. Each morning the little bird would greet her with "Good morning, baby,’' and would of ten fly over to drink from her early morning cup of coffee. During this trip Mrs. Daugh erty was over joyed by receiv ing an antique cut glass dish that appears to be over 100 years old and was once owned b y her great-grandmother. Mrs. Daughertv stated that something of interest was planned each day while there, and the hospitality shown by these people will never be for gotten. One of the things that im pressed me most while talking with Mrs. Daugherty' was her being so appreciative to Miss Inez Larkin for whom she is employed, and Mrs. Edna Stockin, who cared for Miss Larkin and many other friends and relatives who made it pos sible for her to go on this wonderful trip.
