I know the men who were on that commis sion and what's good enough for them is good enough for me". The men to whom the speaker was referring includ ed H. Clifton Blue of Aber deen, Clyde Harriss of Salis bury, and Kemp Doughton of Sparta. Mr. Doughton, an of ficial of the Northwestern Bank, served several terms in the General Assembly and was speaker four years ago. Last Thursday after having spent three full months work ing on the budget a member of the subcommittee in the appropriations group rose and without fanfare moved that the recommendations of Mr. Doughton and his co-workers regarding the A and B budg ets be approved. Since the governor’s educational program has already been accepted by the full committee, it is like ly that the budget will remain substantially as it now is. The only thing left is a stack of special requests which must be considered before final action can be taken. Included in these requests will be one for Eliada Home of Asheville. This request is for $25,000 for each year of the coming biennium. I dropped this bill in the hop per some two weeks ago at the request of the board of directors. Since that time the volume of mail from Buncombe has increased considerably. In fact I have received more mail on this subject than any other during my two terms in the General Assembly—except the extension of the Asheville city limits and the Governor’s education and tax program. LIONS SPONSOR— (From Page 1) I,ion SpenceFs record sheet states that he is retired, but for so active a member this is questionable. He and his wife, Lioness Spencer, live in their own little development called “'Spencer Pines’" which contains several cottages for summer guests and a small art gallery which classes from the local schools visit because of the col lection of other educational materials as well as paintings.
