The men furnished fried chicken the women sal ads, pies etc. Mrs. C. C. Crow ell presided at, a short bus iness session of the women and introduced Rev. S. C. Farrior, president of the men of Mon treat. The devotions were led by J. R. Payne, president of the S.C'.A. of Montreat college and C. A. Stubbs told of the "C hurch and Manse Erection League”. The Rev. Robert W. Gray of Black Mountain Pres byterian church was guest speaker. The children and young people of the church had their service after the sup per. The student council of the college were guests for sup per and made themselves use ful in many ways. The women will have one more meeting before the summer conferences but the men will not meet again until September. The executive board of the women of Montreat church will meet Tuesday, May 30 at 4 p.111. with Mrs. John Haw in Davista, Virginia road. All the meetings are set up one week Mr. Gouge Gives Certificates To 26 Students Junior Red Cross First Aid certificates were issued May 17th to 26 8th grade students who had completed the course under the instruction of E. V. Gouge at Black Mountain Gra mmar school. Jack Ui“es, Jr. is president. The Men of South Carolina synod are having their meet this week end in Anderson auditorium. There are some Mmi men with some wives and other members of the family. Mr. Strach of Columbia is president. Dr. Ted Jones, also of Columbia, is director. Dti Sunday morning there was a church service at 11 a.m. Dr. Ansley Moore was guest speaker and it was held in Anderson auditorium. The Montreat church held their worship service in Gaith er chapel Sunday. Dr. A. F. Fogartie preached on “Our Lord's Ascension”, Mark 16: 1!L The college chorus sang “Once to Every Man and Na tion". They then left to go and sing in the auditorium for the S. C. synod. Montreat - Anderson college will hold the baccalaureate service in Gaither chapel next Sunday at 10:45 (note change in time). Preacher on Sunday morning is Dr. J. Wayte Ful ton of Miami. The Graduation service will be held in Gaither Monday at 10 a.m. Dr. Joseph B. Clower, Jr. is guest speaker. He is professor of Bible in Hamp den-Sydney college, Va. Saturday morning at 11 a.m. the awards will be presented to the students in Gaither. At 1 p.m. is the alumni luncheon in Assembly Inn. Many of the alumni will be here for the weekend. On Saturday night at 8 will be a concert given by the col lege music dept, in Gaither. Dr. and Mrs. M. C. Patter son were in their cottage last week. Dr. Patterson is pastor of Druid Hills Presbyterian church, Atlanta. Mrs. U. J. L. Peeples of Columbia is spending a few months in the McArn cottage. She has as guests Miss Sally B. Anderson who is here for the summer, and Miss S. Rob erson for a few weeks. Mrs. J. Knox Simpson and sister, Miss Martha Sproull of Jacksonville, Fla., are in their cottage, Stoneybrook. Miss Elizabeth Woodhouse has returned from a few weeks’ visit in Florida. She visited Miss Annie Webb who has returned with her and will be in her home for the summer. Mrs. John Haw accompan ied Miss Virginia Buchanan to her home in Virginia this week. Mr. and Mrs. Francis Wyly of Greenville, S. C., were in Montreat this week end. Mrs. C. M. Watkins of Anderson, S. C., spent the week end in her cottage. Mrs. Hamlyn of New York is the guest of Mrs. Geo. Slight, Assembly drive. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Simp son were in their cottage. They had several week end guests. Mrs. George Emmett is much better after spending the winter in Edgefield, S. C.,with her sister-in-law Mrs. Cleora B. Tompkins. Mrs. Emmett has come to her home here for the summer. She has as a guest her cousin, Mrs. Margaret S. Mallard of Charlotte.
