It is really hard for these people to have to go to the door repeatedly on Halloween and hand out treats to the hundreds who come. And not only that but it has become quite ex pensive. ‘‘Fathers and mothers take the kids by the car load and dump them out in various sections of town and then go back and pick them up when they are through. This group will not be out of sight un til another conies and this continues all evening. The children care very little for the treats but the following morning the streets and side walks will be littered with the gifts.” What is the answer? I'll admit that I don't know. It has been suggested that children remain in their own neighborhood and that a cur few of 9:00 p.m. be set for this evening alone. These are only suggestions. What do you think? Working together we should be able to come up with a solution. I quickly dated myself in my class by asking about the old gym where we play ed basketball a few years back when Asheville - Bilt more was still in the class of Cullowhee. Even some of the oldtim ers on the campus had for gotten that the gym at one time was in a building up on the hill, had extremely poor light in the center, and no seating room at all. Western Carolina College now has more than 1800 stu dents. 91 full time faculty members, and represents an investment by the state of more than $10,700,000. I was impressed by the en tire school and recommend strongly that citizens in this area drive out and inspect this very fine 4-year college which is practically on our door step. You'll be pleasantly sur prised at what you find.
