Powers of Loma Linda, Calif., arrived last Friday to spend three weeks with her daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Francis O. Miles. Ebenezer Methodist Church began their revival last Sun day. Rev. Donald L. Ellis is the visiting minister from Old Fort Methodist Church. Rev. H. D. Jessup is the Pastor. Robert Metcalf entered VA hospital last Tuesday at Oteen; he is reported feel ing some better. Mrs. D. R. Byrd fell at her home last Tuesday. She was not seriously injured. Marco White of Asheville, a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Lee White arrived last Fri day to spend the week end. He became ill and was rush ed to St. Joseph’s hospital and had surgery. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. William Shuford last Tuesday at Marion hospital Nov. 5. Mrs. Kenneth Davis was admitted to Marion hospital last Tuesday for treatment. Mrs. Beulah Arney got her foot broken three weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cal loway of Melbourne, Fla. at tended the funeral last week end of Mrs. Calloway’s fath er, W. R. Allison. The Marion 7th Day Ad ventist Church School was out on Halloween night in stead of asking for trick or treat, they asked for food for the needy. They collected 250 cans of food, also other food. This will be given to the needy at Thanksgiving. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Cal loway and daughter Nancy of Drexel spent last week end with relatives and friends. Mrs. Guss Dale was admit ted to the Marion hospital last Friday for treatment. Mrs. Dora Arney fell at her home last week. She didn’t break any bones. Mrs. Mintie Tisdale, who has been sick for several months at her home, is slowly improving. Mrs. Claude Anthony is a patient at Marion hospital. She entered last Thursday. Obituary Carl Gunter Carl Gunter, 57, of Miami Fla., formerly of Old Fort died Saturday morning: ir Miami. Services were held ai 2 u.m. last Wednesday ir Cherry Springs Baptisi Church in McDowell County The Rev. James Keeseberj officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Rutl Gunter; a daughter. Tannj Marie; a son, Richard of the home; and two sisters, Mrs Annie Deal of Morganton and Mrs. Stella Cox of Mi ami. The num ber of adult readers grows as time goes on into the win ter months. She reports a number of students use the non-fiction books for book ! reports. Included in the col 1 lection of books at the libr ary are five good sets of en 1 cyclopedia and also about 25,000 books, including the non-fiction. A number of new books 1 will be added within the next two weeks and a list will be printed in this column. WOW Annual Banquet The annual banquet of the Ladies Corp and Men’s Corp and their families of the Woodmen of the World was held at the Club House Sat urday, November 10. This event is to raise money for the Orphanage Program, which they sponsor. There are 1467 orphan children in North Carolina and a $3.00 present is bought for each one with the money raised. Allen was hos tess to the Morning Circle of t h e Swannanoa Methodist Swannanoa Methodist Church last Tuesday morning at her home. Mrs. W. B. Kuykendal was in charge of the business and also gave a most interesting program on “What Can We Tell Our Children About Suf fering?” The group voted to send gifts to the patients at the Sanatorium again this Christ mas. Mrs. Allen served delicious refreshments to the members present. Church Supper Tonight The annual Thanksgiving supper will be held tonight (Wednesday) in the Fellow ship Hall of the Methodist Church at 6 :30 o’clock. Every member is invited to come and bring a covered dish. MYF News The Methodist Youth Fel lowship wishes to thank all who responded when thev eollected for UNICEF. They received approximately $55. 00 which will go a long way in helping under priviledge'd children. Also they were very happy at the response g-iven to the Halloween Carnival they sponsored on Halloween night. There was a good at tendance and $27.00 was cleared from this project.
