Today, about nine out
workers in the United
tates are covered by social
c c u r i t y. Unfortunately,
however, many of these peo
e are not receiving the soc
1 security credit they de
rce for the work they are
oing.
The main reason for this is
t ]at some employers are not
[reporting their employees'
i wages as the law requires—
either because they are not
aware of their responsibility
land liability or, in some cases
(strange as it may seem),
(because they have even been
a.-,ked by their employees not j
to make such reports!
The two kinds of work
most likely to go unreported
: [jy employers are domestic
v oi k and agricultural labor.
If you employ household
[help or hire farm labor,
chances are that you should
I be reporting the wages paid
to your employees for social
security purposes. If you aie
jn doubt about your respon
sibility for making these re
Iporls, or if you would like
additional information, please
contact the Asheville Social
Security Office. Remember
employer who fails
a report of his em
wages for social
purposes is liable
back taxes due (in
i that the
to make
I ployees’
security
[ for all
f c 1 u d i n g the employees’
share), plus the interest due,
| ;!nd a possible penalty be
; shlcS.

POET'S CORNER
“Little Things”
I There’er places where I'll
never be;
There’re vistas that I'll never
see;
On many roads I’ll never go;
So many folks I’ll never
know;
There’re many sounds I’ll
never hear;
Some feats I’ll never engin
eer;
So many things I’ll never do;
So much that’s strange I
can’t construe
And yet I’m glad that I can
live
In manner quite diminutive.
With awe I’ve watched the
sun come up
Or peeked into a buttercup;
I’ve felt the thrill of May at
night
In apple orchards pink and
white;
I’ve caught a glimpse of
orioles;
I’ve looked for bluebirds’
nests in holes;
I’ve watched two roosters in
dispute;
I've listened to a hoot owl
hoot;
I’ve wrestled with a plow all
day;
I ve coated trees with sulfur
spray.
Trom little things I get my
thrills,
From puppy dogs to daffo
dils.
