J.. on Saturday, April 20. The last unit to perform, the corps responded with firsts in almost all of the ath- - er areas. They were the first unit to receive applause for an individual drill movement and the only unit to receive a standing ovation from the estimated 1500 spectators; all the other units received only seated applause as they left the field. They were also the only unit to receive the personal congratulations of General Alger, commanding general II Corps. Army Cadet Sergeant First Class Charles T. Blaine, a snare drummer and a squad leader in the drum platoon, took part in the exercises of the Drum and Bugle corps at Camp Kilmer. A sophomore in wood technology, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Circle 2t Mrs. Marion Cor ett, chairman, met with Miss Elizabeth Woodhouse in her ome on Kentucky Road on 'uesday, May 14 at 3:30 p.m. The Morning Worship ser vice was held in Gaither Chap el at 11 A.M. with Rev. Cal vin Thielman as preacher. His sermon was “The Parting of the Way.” The college chorus under the direction of Allan Guy sang “Lord Our God” by Bortniansky as offer tory anthem. Warren C. Coker, Jr., was at the organ. At 5 p.m. the Festival Pro gram conducted by Dr. John Finley Williamson was held in Anderson auditorium. Chor uses from W'arren Wilson col lege, Swannanoa sang “Hal lelujah Ohorus—Beethoven. A group from Mount Pisgah Academy, Candler, N. C., sang “Let All the Nations Praise Thee. 0 Lord.” and “How Loveiy is Thy Dwelling Place”. Montreat-Anderson sang “O Cast Thy Burden Upon the Lord.” and “We Walk in the Name of the Lord”. Then the combined choruses sang. They were all indeed beauti ful and well done. It is of interest to note that the South Carolina mot her of Year, 1963 is a grad uate of Montreat-Anderson College, then Montreat Nor mal School of the year 1930. She is Wilhelmenia Weldon Pocher. Her husband is now manager of the Community Development Department of the South Carolina Electric and Gas Company. They live in Mt. Pleasant, S. C. She is the mother of five children and grandmother of four. Many visitors were in Mon treat for the week end, some 'to attend the Festival of Music here for the week. Don Stubbs a student in Clemson college, was home for the Mother’s Day week end. Mrs. E. C. Sherry is spend ing a few weeks in Assembly Inn after spending the winter in New York City and in Long Island, N. Y. Mrs. Charles Brinkerhoff MOUNTAIN VIEW CLUE MEETS IN HOME OF MRS. JOHN CLEMENTS The Mountain View Home Demonstration club met Mon day, May 6, at the home of Mrs. John Clements on Camp Branch Road. Mrs. Harry Kirkpatrick gave the devo tional. Mrs. Roy Marlowe, president, presided over the short business meeting. Everyone was urged to at tend the Style Show on May 17, at 8 o’clock at Erwin High School. Also announc ed was Farm Home Week, June 18-20 in Raleigh. Mrs. Mary Ray, Home Econ omics agent, gave the lesson, “Is it legal?” She discussed many everyday legal ques tions. She suggested that everyone, regardless of age, should make a will. She also pointed out that you should be thoroughly familiar with all insurance policies and oth er common legal matters. All important papers should be kept together and in a place safe from loss or destruction. Following the discussion, the hostess served refreshments to a record gathering. Those present were: Mrs Reece Davis, Mrs. A. G. Pupils Receive Nal'l Awards In Music Meet Thirteen piano pupils from the class of Mrs. Rosamond W. Schneider, Charmeldee Acres, Black Mountain have registered as candidates for membership in the National Fraternity of Student Musici ans, sponsored by the Nation al Guild of piano teachers of which Mrs. Schneider is a member. This group of young piano players played in the Annual Piano Paying Audi tion, Thursday, May 9, in Asheville. They performed creditably in the presence of a well known examiner from another state. They were ac companied by Mrs. A. Terrell Reese, Mrs. William Senn, Mrs. William Thompson, Mrs. Edwin T. McCall, and Mrs. Schneider. After the audition the group enjoyed hamburgers at Mc Donalds. Participants receiving Na tional awards were Carolyn Burnett, Kenny Hanson, Ter ry McCall, Kathryn Ann Senn, and Janice Watson. State awards went to Gayle Marett, Deborah Jean Miller, and Nancy Miller. Those receiv ing district awards were Nor ma Jean Burleson, Brenda Gail Burnett, Kay Burnette, and Mary Catherine Reese. Susan Jean Thompson re ceived the local award. The children will receive their certificates at Mrs. Schneid er’s annual piano recital, May 23. JANNELLE LEDBETTER ON YEARBOOK STAFF Berea. Ky., May 7—Miss Janelle Ledbetter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rector Led better, Star Route, Black Mountain, has been selected co-circulation manager of the 1963-1964 Chimes yearbook at Berea Colege, Berea, Ky. The 1963-64 Chime* will incorporate in a pictorial re view the sundry aspects of Berea College and will pre sent the students and the faculty in the various phases of college life, yearbook of ficials said. Miss Ledbetter is a grad uate of Charles D. Owen High School. She is a member of the junior class at Berea.
