The Feminine Mystique by
Betty Friedan. Mrs. Friedan
has collected a provacative
body of evidence—from doc
tors, psychoanalysts, marriage
counsel ors, child-guidance
authorities, socialogists, edu
caors, and from American
women themselves—to show
that the American woman is
the vistim of a sexual sell.
This is the book which will
be given a special review at
the November Friends of the
Library morning meeting.
The Soncubine by Norah
Lofts. A novel of Anne Bo
leyn’s life—from her first
acquaintance with Henry,
through her coronation and
execution. Historically ac
curate, it is a tragedy play
ed out against a background
cf court splendor and inter
national policies, teeming with
the names—Wolsey, Pope
Clement, More, Cromwell,
Crammer—that influenced the
whole course of history.
Joy in the Morning by
Betty Smith. This is a story
of a boy and a girl, poor as
well as very young determin
ed to make something won
derful of their life together,
even tho the odds were all
against it. And they did.
Neither sentimental nor squa
lid, this is a story which is
true to the realities of fami
liar experience.
A Study of Communism by
J. Edgar Hoover. Good read
ing for all.

blackhawks beat—
(From Page 1)
tended from its own 38 stall
ed because of a 15 yard pen
alty for a personal foul.
Again the Blackhawks tried
to move the ball, but were
shoved back for losses amount
ing to 22 yards. Things
looked good for Owen with
North Buncombe back in punt
formation, but the visitors
fumbled the punt return as
the Blackhawks recovered on
the Owen 43. North Bun
combe took advantage of this
break as a Roberts to Stevens
pass for 29 yards accounted
for the second Blackhawk
touchdown. Stevens kicked
the extra point as North Bun
combe increased its lead to
13-0. On the kickoff Owen
again fumbled the ball as the
Blackhawks recovered to set
up their drive for a third
touchdown. With 57 seconds
left in the half, Warren Wil
liams raced around right end
from one yard out to climax
this 57 yard drive. Again
Stevens kicked the extra
point to give the Blackhawks a
20-0 lead. Before the half
was over North Buncombe
had the ball again, this time
at midfield. North Bun
combe’s drive stalled on the
Owen 20 as the first half
ended.
In the second half the War
horses played great defensive
ball by allowing the Black
hawks only 46 yards rushing
and no yards passing.
In the third period the
North Buncombe defense
again choked a Warhorse
drive, this time on the 20
yard line of the Blackhawks.
Owen’s defense began to
click as North Buncombe was
stopped on the 21. The
Blackhawks punted and Owen
took over at midfield.
The Warhorses did about
everything except win the
game in the rough fourth
quarter. After exchanging
the ball once more the War
horses took the punt on their
30 and returned it to the 42.
On the next play the Black
hawks were penalized 15
yards for roughing the passer.
A nine yard aerial from
quaterback Jim Coman to
end Sam Harper moved the
ball to the Blackhawk 31.
Again North Buncombe re
ceived a 15 yard penalty,
Ibis time for grabbing the
face guard. Three plays la
ter halfback Bill Bumgarner
raced around right end from
six yards out for the first
Owen score. The extra point
failed as North Buncombe’s
lead was cut to 20-6. Owen
again turned charger as they
recovered a fumble at mid
field on the kickoff. A pass
from Jim Coman intended
ior Dili j_>uiugai uci vv
tercepted on the 20 yard line
to choke Owen’s hopes of a
second touchdown. Two plays
later Owen’s Richard Bur
nette recovered a Blackhawk
fumble at the line of scrim
mage. On Owen’s first play
Ronnie Craig drove to the 5
yard line on a double reverse
play. A 15 yard penalty for
a personal foul on this play
set the Warhorses back at the
30 again. With five seconds
left in the game quarter
back Wayne Tubaugh com
pleted a 16 yard aerial to end
Billy White. The game end
ed before Owen could get
another play under way.
Outstanding players on de
fense for the Warhorses were
Harry Hamil, Sam Harper,
Jack Guthrie, and Richard
Burnette.
This week Owen plays the
Brevard Blue Devils at Bre
vard. The Blue Devils hold
a 4-1 mark and are undefeat
ed in the Blue Ridge Confer
ence.
All in all Owen played a
hard fought game. If the
locals could only have turned
that first quarter drive into
a touchdown, things would
have been ^efferent. In the
