It seems a little unfair that it is unethical for doctors to advertise their capabilities, but that is the way it is. Beyond saying that a man is opening a business at a cer tain location, at a specified time, and giving something of his background and training, there is nothing more which can be said. When Dr. Jack Kettleson opened his office here he was properly introduced to the reading public through our paper and in due time his of fice was opened. He has a most attractive office in the location where the Builders Paint and Supply was at one time and already he has ex We send greetings, not as a custom, but with sincere thanks for your friendship. It has been a few years since the last optometrist was I here; he made the mistake of ' locating on the second floor of a building on State Street, which took him out of the path I cf passerbys. If business con I tinues for Dr. Kettleson as it has in the time since he has opened his office, he will ex tend the hours for service here. It has long been a source of unhappiness for persons living here to have to wait for weeks to get an appointment with an Asheville optometrist, now one may either call the doctor at his Asheville office for an ap pointment out here or go by his office on State Street any Saturday from 9-12. Let’s give the doctor “the business.” After Christmas Sales Those lucky people who re ceived money instead of gifts for Christmas are having a hey-day around town today. Yesterday when I thought I'd have an early peek just to see what was available I was sur prised to find most of the stores still closed. Certainly I don’t mind; rest is the item most merchants and their sales personnel need after the hectic days before the holidays. We have enjoyed your friendship and hope to be of service dur ing the New Year. 1964 BURGESS ESSO SERVICENTER Black Mountain s S, 2,2) Si 2, Sr, 2,2.2 • Sv 2.2,2 2, 2, 2, 2, a 2i». a we wish each of you a very happy and prosperous New Year. KEARFOTT DIVISION GENERAL PRECISION, INC. Black Mountain, N. C. Since our youngest needed ; si oes to start the year off we went to see the Hush Puppies . at Beddingfield-Konrad’s and ; the story told to us by Edna ; has such a wonderful sales 1 point we wish to repeat it, minus the name of the person involved. Since the shoes mentioned are the “dog-gondest most comfortable shoe” you can stick your foot into it stands to reason that anyone who has to don high hee'ed shoes is going to wait until the last minute to part with the com fies. Imagine the chagrin of a popular lady in town when she had spent an afternoon making calls dressed in her Sunday best to find, while waiting at the door or her last call, that she had never changed shoes at all! She was still in her oldest most comfortable Hush Puppies. We just told Lib this story and she remarked “I’d know something was wrong with my feet if they weren’t pinched a little and my heels cocked up on stilts.” I too, would feel that the comfortable feet were too good to be true! The Time I» So Short Reading somewhere this year “suddenly it’s Christmas” seemed so appropriate. For some odd reason the season slipped up and as usual we were not ready until the very night before. Last year we discovered that the best time of all to have Christmas din ner is on Christmas Eve, then | the whole next day there is nothing to do except relax and 'enjoy the family. I don’t know how old the children must be before they sleep un til a decent hour on Christ mas Day, but we heard ours i whispering at 4 :30, then when no one encouraged their get ting up, they snoozed a while longer. This still makes a pretty long day, about 18 hours to be exact, but this has been an unusually short week. It seems that we prepare for Christmas for a year—and suddenly it’s over! The best time of all, it seems to me, is Christmas Eve when the very air tingles with excitement and there is anticipation and my stery in every package. It was fun when the children were young enough to believe in Santa, but now it is more fun because the shared secrets beforehand and the planning all add to the pleasure. I was a little concerned when our youngest planned to give me “hand cuffs”, but it was better when I found that she meant cuff links. Each year there is always some fresh surprise. How nice when one’s friends are original like the “doll” who brought all the makings for a spaghetti supper, sauce all made, boxes of spaghetti and even the rheese—and the card from a dear friend who said “I'd give my turkey dinner Christmas day just to have one of your apple pies.” We have some of the very I nicest people in our town. Ever since Sally and Don Livingston have known enough people to do so (probably the first week after they came here) they have invited couples and single individuals to Christmas din ner. Since Sally is one of the very best cooks anywhere this is a double treat for all. So now Christmas is over for another year and while i( seemed only yesterday when I wished you a Merry Christmas, I now wish you a very happy and prosperous Mew Year. —Southern pines made up 77 per cent of the pulpwood delivered in roundwood to pulp and paper mills in the ; South last year. The remaind er was hardwoods, totaling nearly five million cords. The latter volume, a new record, was 13 per cent higher than in 1961.
