Ledbetter has been transferred from Home stead Air Force Base, Fla., to Fort Bliss Tex. Mrs. Jack Milton is getting along nicely at home after undergoing surgery in an Asheville hospital recently. Jack H. Patterson, Jr., pre medical student at the Uni versity of Tennessee, Knox ville, is home for the holidays visiting with his father, Jack H. Patterson, 112 Second St. Mr. Patterson’s daughter, Pat a recent graduate of the Uni versity, Chapel Hill, and who is now teaching Spanish at Miss Hutchinson’s private school in Memphis, Tenn., will be home for the holidays Dec. 18. R. P. Abernathy is con fined to his home with a sinus infection and the flu. William Henderson of the University, Chapel Hill, will be home this weekend to spend the holidays with his parents Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Henderson. Mrs. C. R. Longcoy, Sr., has returned to Cypress. Calif., after an extended visit with her son G. R. Longcoy and family, and with friends in Virginia. She made the trip by plane. Mrs. Longcoy makes her home in Cypress with an other son, David. Miss Leigh Brittain of Bel haven College Jackson, Miss, will be home this weekend to spend the holidays with her family. She will make the trip by plane. Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Miss Blankenship received many lovely and useful gifts. Mrs. Jean Carlson of Den ver, Colo., is spending several weeks with Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Hoffman at their home in Last Resort. My grandson Jimmy Elliott of Marion came up to squirrel hunt Saturday, he stayed in the woods all day, only saw three squirrels and got two of them. Another one of my grand sons and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Elliott and little daughters, Mrs. Elliott's sis ter and her girl friend of Old Fort came over Sunday bring ing us some Christmas presi ents. Church Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Tayloi attended the P. H. Church con' ference in Marion last wee! Also the Clear Branch P. H Church observed the sacra ment last Sunday morning. Mrs. Mary Lytle who under went eye surgery some time ago is getting along fine and was back in church last Sun day. Mr. and Mrs-. Henry, Garvei came up to set out their apple trees in their new apple orch ard. Boyd Wrights LUrta aVic) Joe Gilliam, Yevtitt Elliott and Harry Carver set out Vo() trees, finished and Mr. iahd Mrs. Carver returned to their home in Miami last week. They are doing quite a lot of improvements on their place. Also Harry and a doctor have purchased a parcel of land from Rev. Charles Hens ley on the mountain in the Morgan hill section, for mak ing a summer camp some time in the future. A. Kerlee left for Fort Myers Beach on Saturday for the winter. The Thomas D. DeVores en tertained a former co-worker of Tom's and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Capron of Water town, New York, last week. The Caprons were on their way to Florida, Louisiana, and points west along the south ern route to California, Ore gon and Canada. The Cana dian part of the journey is planned for next June. For the benefit of the many, many interested people, Dr. Rich is at home and feeling fine. Van Burnette of Asheville visited his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thad Burnette, last weekend. Twins were born at Thad Burnette’s on Saturday. One of his heifers is a bit confused at two calves following her around, and it isn’t sure wheth er she is seeing double, or if she really has to feed both of them. Carey Brown, a German shepherd, has taken to run ning off to find a playmate, unless the little brown dog comes to her house first. But Saturday, she received a jolt. A big bear hound wandered into her yard, and her master fed the hound, and tied him up, and called the owner whose name was on his col lar. Not only that, but tht hound stayed all night—and Carey hasn’t left the place since. She isn’t going to be supplanted by any other dog Bill Holcombe has been hunting this week, but we haven’t heard yet what luck he had. Mr. and Mrs. H. McGuire Wood took their new tenants and friends, Mr. and Mrs. Carle Perssons to lunch at Tryon on Tuesday. The wedding of Miss Irene Ledbetter will be consummat ed Saturday, December 18, in the First Baptist Church of Black Mountain. We of the Valley wish her a happy mar riage. Mr. and Mrs. Carle Perssons will be spending Christmas with their daughter, Ingrid Madden, her husband and three children in Washington, D. C. Mrs. Gordon Lunsford is un der the weather so close to the Christmas season. North Fork Community Club It was a lovely party at the H. A. Kerlee's last Monday evening. Thirty-two of the valley enjoyed the evening of music supplied by Thad, Ruth, and Thad Burnette, Jr., on stringed instruments; the so los by Donna Nanney and Da vid Nache; and all joined in singing Chri$lnias carols. iurs isrnesi uewicK read me Christmas Story as a devo tional. Mr. DeWiek reminded everyone of the sale of food, and Christmas decorations to be held at the Nortwestern Hank on Saturday, December 18 from 9 until 12. Samples of the decorations were shown, and they are gorgeous! Twen ty of the members have par ticipated in making the wreaths, candy men, birds, angels, elaborate bells, pine cone trees, sprays all of real artistic beauty. Certificates of work in the 4-H were awarded Pansy Wil let. Thad Burnette, Dr. L. L. Rich and Emma Berger. The “manufacture” of Christ mas wreaths, decorations and tree ornaments, along with de licious home-baked foods is entering the home stretch. This sale, held at the North western Bank, Black Mountain, i on Saturday morning, Decem ber 18, from 9:00-12 noon, will be of interest to all who attend. The fine hand-craft and culinary delights of the North Fork people will be long-remembered. This is one of the Howard Willets’ pro jects, with Olive Granger as chairman of crafts, and John nie Nanney, chairman of baked goods. Come early if you want your choice of the hand crafted ornaments and baked goods. The 4-H Ravens It was election ot ollicers at the leader’s home, Satur day evening. Jeff Morris is the new president, Kay Willet the vice-president, Phyllis Wil let secretary-treasurer, Karen Miller the reporter, Phyllis Willet record keeper, Alex Miller song leader, while the refreshment committee will be ably filled by Barbara Burn ette and Joe Cordell, program committee in charge of Kay "and Phyllis Willett and Jeff Morris. The Harveys came here from southern South Carolina, and their health has suffered as a result of the drastic change in the climate. We hope thev will have good health in their move back to South Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey have made many friends in their ; short stay at North Fork David Todd, who is at Fruit land studying for the minstry, will sunnlv the pulpit until a minister is called. December 19 the choir will render a cantata “Dawn of Re turning Grace” at the even ing service. This is an un usually well-trained choir for a rural church, and well worth listening to. At 8 am. on Sunday, the choir will sing at the West ern North Carolina Sanatori um. This week is a very active one at the church. On Tues; day evening, the Gleaners Club had a Christmas party at the home of Myrtle Ballard and Wednesday night was Family Night at the church with everybody participating. On Friday evening the officers and teachers of the Sunday school will have a gift wrap ping preceding the coming of Santa on Wednesday evening of next week. At that time a play will be given by the children, under the direction of FRaye Massey. With The Sick Our hearts were saddened here last week by the serious illness of Miss Sharon (Kitty) Burris a ninth grade student at Owen High .School. She was taken seriously ill last Friday at her home and was in criti cal condition for some days. . Afterwards a recent report is encouraging, and we are hoping that she will soon be home again. Mrs. Annie L. Stafford has not been well for the past everal days. Little Tony Hooper is on the "not so well list” this week. Jack Moore is recuperating nicely at his home after being hospitalized for several weeks. The Rev. Mark Hooper - is reported to be much improved following a severe sick spell a few weeks ago. Word has been received here that Mrs. Margarfet Greenlee Clinkscale has re turned home after spending several weeks in a hospital. Obituary Saddness seems to be in every home here at Crag mont due to the recent death of one of our friends, Mrs. Arcie Brown. Mrs. Brown had been in declining health for several months and became seriously ill following surgery several days ago. She was employed at the W. N. C.
