C. 28805 Telephone Talk By MIKE CARSON Your TeleDhone Manager Did you know that nighttime station-to-station long distance rates In the Black Mountain area go Into effect at 7 p.m.? Unfortunately, very few of our cus tomers do. It seems that ever since the “after 9 p.m.” extra low night rates become effective in April, 1963, our customers have associated the 9 o’clock hour with economical long distance dialing. Even though the low rates are now In effect at 7 p.m., the bulk of evening long distance calls does not begin until 9. Thus, the switchboards are often very busy at that hour resulting in delayed calls which creates incon veniences for you the customer. Most of this could be avoided. Just remember at Southern Bell our evening starts at 7. THE MAGIC BRIDGE... It’s only eight inches long—but it spans continents, oceans, even outer space, at speeds that make distance disappear. Your telephone is your personal pathway to almost any one, anywhere. It keeps you near your friends, even when they're half a world away. And it's one bridge that’s practically never closed for repairs. AN EMERGENCY OPERATION, which had knocked her out of a planned vacation in Hawaii, was really giving the lady a case of the birthday blues. She comforted herself somewhat with the thought that at least she could be near one of her daughters, in whose home she was convalescing. Suddenly the telephone rang, _ and a chorus of familiar voices began to sing Happy Birthday. The callers were her other grown chil dren, in five dif ferent locations. Would a family conference call be good medicine for somebody you know?
