Mrs. Woodard is ; former resident of BlacI Mountain. Mrs. Bea Martin and Mrs. W V. McMahan visited Mrs Martin’s son and family, S/Sgt Kenneth E. Martin, Mrs. Martir and their two sons, Edwin anc Gary at Springfield, Va., Iasi week. During their visit Kenneth drove them tc Washington, D. C. for a sightseeing trip. S/Sgt. Martin is in the Army Engineers and is an instructor in Company A at Fort Belvoir, Va. Mrs. Martin and Mrs. McMahan returned home by plane. Lt. Col. Raymond Heath (Ret.), Mrs. Heath and their daughter, Helen, have returned from a five weeks visit with the Heath’s son and daughter-in-law, Captain and Mrs. Raymond Heath, Jr., of Landsburg, Germany. While there they made side trips to Austria, Switzerland, and France. David S. Hamby, executive director, Mountain Manpower, Inc., was guest speaker at the Asheville Civitan Club meeting Tuesday, in the Gold Room at the Battery Park Hotel. Mr. Hamby spoke on “Mountain Manpower, Inc. - A Community Effort”. Preston Osteen has resumed his studies at Berea College, Berea, Ky. His mother, Mrs. Burton Osteen, Karen and Michele and Mrs. Clarence E. Keith drove him to school on Saturday and returned home Sunday. Mrs. W. T. Miller and son. Bill and her grandson, Tim, attended Mrs. Miller’s family reunion at the old Cook homestead near Tazewell, Tenn., on Sunday, Aug. 31. Mrs. Miller has two sisters and five brothers living, and this was the first time in four years that they had all been together. For the past eleven years the reunion has been held on Labor Day weekend. Fifty-four members of the family were present for the get-together. Bruce and Michael Waters have returned to their home in Dunedin, Fla., after spending a few weeks here with members of their family. They made the trip by jet. Mr. and Mrs. Phil McMahan and daughters, Karen and Angelia of Hendersonville, Tenn., recently spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. V. McMahan. Mr. and Mrs. Fred L. Wilson spent the weekend in Greensboro with their son, Emory and family and their daughter, Mrs. L. L. Hicks and family. While there they celebrated the birthday anniversaries of Emory and his son, Fred Burnett Wilson and Mrs. Hicks, the former Miss Nany Wilson. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bennett and children, Susan and infant son, Jack Jr., will arrive Monday to spend a few days with her mother, Mrs. Bea Martin. Miss Sandra Buckner is enrolled at Appalachian State University, Boone, as a sophomore. Sandra is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James E. (Jimmy) Buckner. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Watkins and son. Bob, spent the weekend in Clinton, Tenn., with Mr. and Mrs. Howard :• Watkins and family, Michael j: and Terry. f Dr. James Love and son, i James Jr., spent Labor Day weekend with the Carolina ; Mountain Club camping in the :: Smokey Mountains. Miss Frances G. Moorhead was elected treasurer of the Asheville Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy last Thursday afternoon at a meeting in the home of Miss Lula Lewis, Carolina Apartments, Asheville. Mr. and Mrs. Art Randall of Lake Placid, Fla., are visiting Mrs. Carolina Walbek at “The Scramble”, Montreat Road. Mr. Randall is a retired Aeronautical Engineer. Weekend guests of the F. Louis Grant family were Mrs. Fred Grant and Mr. and Mrs. Aimsley Darbv of Chester, S. C. Mrs. Wilson Hendren and her brother, R. Westra of Jacksonville, Fla., are spending two weeks here at Mrs. Siedel’s apartments, 109 Church Street. Mrs. Hendren is a former resident of Black Mountain. By MRS. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Allison. Jr., at Marion General Hospital on August 30th. Mr. Max Hunt, Mr. H. C. Dennis and Mr. Grant Hunt of Old Fort and Mr. W. H. Young of Hendersonville, spent last weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lee Grant in North Augusta, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Gus White have adopted a son. He has been named Robert Edwin. Mrs. David Edwards spent last weekend in Fort Bragg with her husband who is in training. Mrs. Edwards is the former Miss Teresa Early. A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Carroll McEntire at Marion General Hospital on Donald Slatkin will leave Friday to resume his studies at Berea College, Berea, Ky. Mr. and Mrs. Waites Ward and daughters, Vicki and Donna of Lanham, Maryland, visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Fortune, Jr., last week.
