GEORGE ROGER REYNOLDS . ..former Miss Putnam Putnom - Reynolds The wedding vows of Miss Sharon Ann Putnam and George Roger Reynolds were exchanged m a beautiful can dlelit double ring, ceremony Friday, April 7 in their own home in Black Mountain, which they had purchased prior to their wedding. The Rev, Ernest Craig conducted the ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Mary H. Howie of Chamblee. Ga. and Wayne H. Howie of Atlanta, Ga. The groom is the son of Mrs. George B Remolds of Black Mountain MISS SETSER Engaged Mr. and Mrs. John Setser of Swannanoa Rt. 1 announce the approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Rita Ann Setser. to ly-yry Edward Pressley. The prospective bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Pressley of Black Mountain. He served two years in the U.S. Army, including a year in Vietnam, and is now employed by Stencil Areo Engineering Corporation. The bride-elect is a graduate of Charles D. Owen High School and is employed by Ingle's in Black Mountain. A May wedding is planned. and the late Mr. Reynolds. The bride wore an empire gown of pale blue knit, with long full cuffed sleeves trimmed with white lace. Her veil was an Alecon lace mantilla. She designed and made her gown. Mrs. Johnny Poteat was maid of honor. She wore a gown of aqua knit and carried a single red rose. Johnny Poteat was best man. A reception was given. Assisting were Mrs. Tony Roberson, Miss Carolyn Melin, Mrs. Arlene Reynolds and Mrs. Wilma Poteat. Miss Connie Dougherty presided at the bride’s book. The bride is employed at Tyson's Furniture Co. The groom is employed with the Alcoholic Rehabilitation Center in Black Mountain. MRS. EDWARD PADGETT ...the former Miss Arlene Robinson Robinson-Podgett Miss Annie Ariene Robinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence L. Robinson of 258 North Louisiana Avenue, and Edward Gilbert Padgett were married Friday, April 7, in Emma Baptist Church. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Carl Pointer. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Padgett of Black Mountain. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a full length gown of sheer nylon over satin, with daisy lace and pearl trim, with a detachable Chapel length train, trimmed in matching lace.Her veil of illusion was attached to a cluster bow of net petals. She carried an oriental bird cage, covered with daisies, with a live Canary in the cage. The bride designed and made her gown and those of her at tendees. David Gilbert Allen of Swannanoa was best man. Ushers were Jody Padgett, brother of the bridegroom, and Michael Edwards. The bride attended Asheville Buncombe Technical Institute. She is employed by Dr. A. S. Morris. The bridegroom is employed by Burlington In dustries. He will continue his education at Chowan College. A cake cutting was held at the home of the bride’s parents following the rehearsal. The couple will reside on Charlotte Street in Asheville. Annual 4-H Talent Show Friday Night The Annual Buncombe County 4-H Talent Program will be held at Aycock School Auditorium on Friday night at 7:30 p. m. 4-H members from throughout the county will be participating in skits, vocal solos, ininstrumental groups, acrobatic acts, and square dancing. The older members will be serving as emcees. The acts will be judged and ribbons will be awarded at the end of the program. The blue ribbon acts will represent Buncombe County at the District Talent Program in June in Waynesville. The public is invited to attend. Mctlrotn-Horns The wedding of Miss Kathy Marie McElrath and Glenn Allen Harris took place at 3 p. m. Saturday, April 8, in a ceremony conducted by the Rev. J. David Moore at Buckeye Baptist Church in Swannanoa. The bride’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Marion J. McElrath of Black Mountain and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. - and Mrs. Glenn Harris, Black Mountain. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an Empire gown of bridal satin and organza with appliques of lace flowers and hearts. Her full length mantilla was trimmed with matching lace. 'Hie gown was made and designed by the bride’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Barbara McElrath. Matron of honor was Mrs. Don Ballard of Swannanoa, sister of the bride, who wore an - Empire gown of yellow dotted swiss with wide-brimmed white hat. Bridesmaids were Miss Diane Smeltzer of Swannanoa, Miss Linda Cuthbertson of Swan nanoa and Miss Mona Branch of Asheville. Junior attendants were Miss Donna Ballard, Miss Angela Ballard, Cecil Harris, brother of the bridegroom, Kenneth McElrath, and Dudley Harris of Elk Park. Best man was David Arthur Johnson of Roane Mountain, Term., uncle of the bridegroom. Ushers were uncle of the bridegroom. Susan Sears Finalist In State s Miss Teenager Pageant Miss Susan Sears, a junior at Owen High School, has been selected as a finalist in the Miss North Carolina Teen Ager Pageant. Susan, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Samuel Hawkins of 105 Allen Mountain Drive, was chosen as one of 50 finalists, from hundreds of entries MISS V AH ALA Engaged Mr. and Mrs. Donald A. Vahala of Eugene, Oregon announce the engagement of their daughter, Janelle Inez to Paul Michael McMahan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat M. McMahan of Black Mountin. Miss Vahala is a graduate of Springield High School, career Academy of San Francisco, Calif., and is now working at McKenzie Women’s Clinic, P. C. Mr. McMahan is a 1969 graduate of Charles D. Owen High School and is stationed with the U. S. Navy in San Francisco on the U. S. S. Enterprize. They plan to be married May 13. through out the state from ages 14-17. The skirt was accented with a wide appliqued border of lace flowing into a circular chapel train. Her three tiered veil of illusion was attached to a lace crown. She carried a white Bible centered with a white orchid with satin streamers Miss Phyllis Ballard was her sister’s maid of honor wearing an Empire full length dress of maize with a matching veil. She carried a bouquet of yellow and white carnations. Bridesmaids were Miss Jeri Lynn Gamer of Columbia, S. C., Miss Debbie Haun and Miss Regina Franklin. They wore dresses of nile green with matching headpiece and carried boutquets of yellow carnations. Leonard Carpenter of Black Mountain was best man. Ushers were John Mundy of Black Mountain, Gerald Mundy of Swan nano a, and Tom Mundy of Greensboro, brother’s of the bridegroom. A reception was held in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
