Tweetsie Has A New Look
Tweetsie Railroad has a
new look. The popular theme
park, set to kick off its 20th
season May 29, has undergone
a major remodeling and ex
pansion program.
The new look is distinctively
turn of the century, according
to Spencer Robbins, vice
president and general
manager The entire village
has been given a new facade
with the largest shop, The
General Store, being
remodeled to capture the
early 1900 look. To make the
interior complete, antique
fixtures in the old Burleson
Store at Plumtree were
bought and moved to
Tweetsie.
"Many of these items date
back to the 1800's,” said
designer Jack Pentes of
Charlotte Pentes’ firm is in
charge of creating the new
look.
The village will also have
working craftsmen, producing
items unique to the era.
Scheduled to date is a lady
who spins wool; a weaver,
using a very old loom; and, a
artist doing ceramic

The Black Mountain Po'ice
Department conducted 18
investigations this week and
mac ii arrests. Five persons
were arrested for speeding,
three for being intoxicated,
one for DUI, and one for
felonious assault. Citaions
were given for the following;
one armed robbery, one at
tempted, improperly parked
vehicle, one drag race, and
one motorcycle race.
Accidents which occurred
throughout the week were as
follows: an accident at Webb
Store parking lot. $300.00

Byrd Jones, 74, formerly of
Craigmont Road, Black
Mountain, who died Tuesday,
May 13, were held at 11 a.m.
Friday in the chapel of Miller
Funeral Home
The Rev. Harold Reeves
officiated. Burial was in Black
Mountain City Cemetery.
Grandsons were pallbearers.
A native of Black Mountain,
she was the widow of Thomas
L. Jones and a member of
Tabernacle United Methodist
Church.
Surviving are a grand
daughter, Mrs. Joyce Dixon of
Hendersonville with whom she
had made her home for the
past two years; a sister, Mrs.
Geneva McCracken of Boone;
a brother, the Rev. Gene Byrd
of Boone; three other grand
children and four great
grandchildren.
WALTER BROWN
Walter Eugene Brown, 22, of
Highway 25, Fletcher, was
dead on arrival at a Hen
derson County hospital
Sunday, May 16, of injuries
sustained in an automobile
accident.
A native of Buncombe
County, he had lived in
Henderson County for the past
seven years. He was a son of
J.D. Brown of Candler and the
late Grace Robertson Brown.
He was a member of Etowah
Riding Club. He played
