Junior Olympics At Swannanoa School I After a week of delay caused by heavy rains, the Junior Olympics held for grades one through eight at Swannanoa school finished their exercises on May 17 and 18. This is the second year of the Olympics. According to Jerry Green, assistant principal, this year’s games were better organized, and more children were able to participate. “Various students who previously did not excell in extracuricular activities were able to receive praise for their ac complishments in the Junior Olympics," he commented. Each student this year received a certificate of participation. Also, first, —- c second, and third place rib bons were given to the winners in the 17 areas of competition. The events which were held included tug-of-war, 50 yard dash, softball throw, shotput, potatoe sack race, three legged race, and wheelbarrow race. Sportsmanship was the major theme of the Junior Olympics this year. Out on the slightly soggy ground, the students cheered and rallied together to win their designated events. Without a doubt, this year’s Junior Olympics generated unity, sportsmanship, and an outlet of recreation for the students at Swannanoa School.
