Bartlett of Bee Tree Road, Swannanoa, will be a con testant in the North Carolina State Miss U.S. Teen Pageant at Grove Park Inn June 26-17 in Asheville. Girls ages 13 through 19 will be competing in the categories of poise, charm, personality, scholastic achievement, and community involvement. Each girl will also be in terviewed by a panel of judges. A luncheon is scheduled for Saturday the 26, at which time the contestants will model street dresses. Evening gown competition is Saturday night. The pageant is open to the public. For the evening gown competition, Jan, a rising senior at Owen High School, will be wearing an ice-pink, sleeveless, organzia over taffeta floor length gown, with ruffled collar, A-line skirt, and wide ruffled hem. WILLIAM GARDNER ..the former Miss Anne Coman Marriage vows were spoken by Miss Elizabeth Anne Coman and William Motley Gardner, at three in the af ternoon, Saturday, June 19, 1976 before an altar banked with greenery, baskets of white chrysanthemum and snapdragons interspersed with branched candelabra, in the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Asheville. The Rev. Joel T. Key of St. Paul’s and the Rev. Robert F. Bundy of Carr United Methodist Church of Durham, the groom’s home church, conducted the double ring ceremony. Mrs. Henry Flowers, soloist, sang First Corinthians 13 and Joe Peoples, soloist, sang The Lord’s Prayer as the Benediction. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Herbert Coman, Sr. of Swannanoa. The grooms parents are Mr. and Mrs. Chester I,. Gardner of L Durham. ' ' . Given in marriage by her parents and escorted to "the altar by her father, the bride wore a formal gown of can dlelight organza with an Alencon lace motif over dress and bodice with a wedding band neckline. Its long sleeves were fitted^with a pointed lace trim. The bodice was ap pliqued with Alencon lace and the belted back carried a chapel length train, the hemline scalloped with lace. Her veil was a chapel length mantilla of imported silk illusion, bordered with Alencon lace and sprinkled with appliques of matching lace. The bridal bouquet was a nosegay of white sweet heart roses, stephanotis and baby’s breath. Mrs. J. Herbert Coman, Jr. of Asheville, sister-in-law of the bride was matron of honor. She wore an Empire gown of aquamarine blue crepe featuring a matching short, detachable cape and a white picture hat with matching aquamarine satin ribbon and an aqua flower centered on the brim. Her bouquet was a nosegay of mixed summer flowers. Bridesmaids were Miss Mary Hazlett of Chapel Hill, Miss Jean Corell of Green sboro, Miss Mary Lou Smith of Gaffney, S.C., Mrs. Gary McDonald of Mars Hill, and Mrs. Gerald R. Coman of Oak Ridge, Tenn., sister-in-law of the bride. Their attire and flowers were identical to that of the honor attendants. Mr. Gardner was his son best man. Ushers were James Herbert Coman Jr. of Asheville and Gerald R. A Bridemaids Brunch was given on Saturday morning June 19th by Mrs. Oliver Alexander and Mrs. James Parks at the Alexander home in Black Mountain. The bride's parents were hosts for breakfast on Saturday morning at the Asheville Country Club for out of town guests and members of the wedding party. Numerous parties honoring the couple were held, prior to the wedding, in Durham, Asheville and the Swannanoa area. The bride is a graduate of Mars Hill College and Charles D. Owen High School. She has been employed as a member of the faculty of Charles Bell Elementary School. Next fall she will assume teaching duties at Vance Academy in Henderson, N.C. The bridegroom is a graduate of Mars Hill College with a B.S. degree in religion. He is serving as a student pastor in the Durham area and will enter Duke Univer sity School of Divinity in September. For a wedding trip to Florida Mrs. Gardner chose, as her going away costume, a green linen, two piece suit, with white linen vest and green and white blouse. They will be living in Durham. MISS KAY DELPHIA TAYLOR, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Taylor of Black Mountain received her B.S. degree in Nursing Education from the University of Tennessee School of Nursing on Friday June .11, at Knoxville, Tenn. Miss Taylor was awarded her Nurses j>in at the special Pinning CefSrffony on June 10fn. SHe received Special Recognition and Honcrs for establishing a Com munity Health and Growth Development Program. She was a member of the honor sorority Gamma Phi Beta. She has accepted a position at the University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville and will be residing there.
