Servicemen A-APP RANDY GADDY Airman App. Randy Gaddy of the USS Nimitz, Sixth Fleet has been home on emergency leave for a two week period due to the recent illness of his grandfather, Ralph Wilker son. Gaddy arrived early Friday morning, Nov. 26 from Rome, Italy. He has recently been offered a scholarship to attend the U.S. Naval Academy at An napolis due to his high GCT & ARI scores. Statler Jr., son of retired Air Force Technical Sergeant and Mrs. George R. Statler of Rt. 1, Swannanoa, has been selected for technical training at Chanute AFB, 111., in the Air Force weather service field. The airman recently completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas, and studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special instruction in human relations. Airman Statler attended Southwest Missouri State University. His wife, Linda, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Erwin of Kimberling City, Mo. PVT. JOHN BLANKENSHIP Marine Private John R. Blankenship, son of Mr. John W. Blankenship of Craigmont Road, and Vivolynn C. Blankenship of Box 322 Walker Cove Road, both of Black Mountain, N;G\, has completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. During the 11 week training cycle, he learned the basics of battlefield survival. He was intoduced to the typical daily routine that he will experience during his enlistment and studied the personal and professional standards traditionally exhibited by Marines. He participated in an active physical conditioning program and gained proficinecy in a variety of military skills, including first aid, rifle marksmanship and close order drill.
