Lynne Blankenship with country dancers Lynne Blankenship, a Berea College senior from Black Mountain, danced with the Berea College Country Dancers on stage at the Southern Highlands Craft sman*! Fair in Knoxville* Civic Coliseum this past week. Since its beginning in 1948 in Gatlingburg the Fair has included folk music and dance. Now the oldest and largest craft fair in the United States, it has outgrown the facibties in Gatlinburg and moved to Knoxville; but the old folk traditions are still carried on. Founded almost 40 years ago, the Berea College Country Dancers are a group of students who perform and help preserve the folk dances of Appalachia and other countries, encouraging others to learn folk dancing by holding workshops and programs in churches, high schools, and colleges. Along with Country Dancer activities, Lynne is the president of the Student Association, she is an honor student, and she is active in various clubs on campus. Lynne is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. J.W. Blankenship, and a graduate of Charles d’ Owen High School.
