Highland Farms thrift sale brings out a crowd by Cynthia Reimer Highland Farms annual thrift sale for residents and friends brought out a crowd of treasure hunters Feb. 26 and 27. The sale has provided funds for wheel chairs, oxygen tanks, grocery carts, a piano and library books for the residential section of Highland Farms. It has also made possible an annual donation from Highland Farms to the Swannanoa Valley Medical Center. This year’s sale netted a bout (1,900, according to co chairmen Hazel Jerrett and Katherine Ward. Items for sale included bake goods, jewelry, clothing, bed ding, kitchenware, furniture, books, and other items. By far the most popular sedon of the thrift sale was the jewelry department, where customers searched for valuables and decorations. Saleslady (right) is Helen Black. Intern program for seniors U.S. Representative Bill Hendon announced that his office is now accepting appli cations from residents of the 11th Congressional District In terested in participating in the 1982 Congressional Senior Citizen Intern Program. The week-long program will take place May 17-21. Applicants for the program must be 65 or older. Applica tions must be at Hendon’s Washington office no later than March 20. The sucessful applicant will be notified by April 1. Interns spend one week in Washington attending a series of briefings and lectures on subjects of special interest to the < elderly. They also spend time in the Congressional of fice and familiarize themselves with the federal government and how it operates, especially in the area of aging.
