5?aro Two The Messenger and Intelligencer WOMAN'S CORNER. (By Mrs. Rosalind A. Redfearn.) The efforts of the Ta rent-Teach ?rs Aociatiorof Lilesville were crowned with great success in giving the play "A Wedding Without a Woman." Miss Bailey, one of th? teachers f ai 1 the felt that she had ti e cooperation of every man, woman and child in the township in Retting it up. The men made beautiful ladies, in fact some of them were quite coquettish. It seem ed a little odd though to see the hand some bride, Miss Seago, the realistic grandmother, Wall, the old maid Mor ton, and the cute little flower gjrl pufliing away on a cigaret while they received the congratulations of thei friends. A discussion on the best plan for using the nice sum of money ma was held at the meeting of the Liles ville Woman'scluh, Saturday after noon. Books of reference, as an En cyclopedia, Century Dictionary, Book 01 Knowledge, piay ground equip ment, a curtain for the stage and Other things were mentioned. The address to the club on Self Education by Mrs. A. E. Beling was gteatly enjoyed. Mrs. Beling said that any woman with an alert mind, a desire to add to her store of knowledge, can in a few years, by careful reading and study, Become wen educated along many lines. She believes in becoming in terested in a certain subject, or in other words having a "hobby," wheth er it be literature, history, the art of cookery, child life, nature study, or what not, master that subject well and then turn to another. The primary object of the very first woman's organizations, which were missionary societies in the churches, and later the various kinds of present day clubs, were for the enlightenment and improvement of the members along the lines of missionary work, now we study every thing from sci ence to mythology. One of the best mediums for self education, Mrs. Ba ling said, is to read good books, both) literary and practical magazines, study the questions asked by children, 60 thatyou can answer them intelli gently. This in itself will provide a liberal education, as children ask the why and the wherefore of everything. A certain amount of the family in come should always be used for read ing: matter which will fit all ages of the family. The civics department of this club reported that they had drawn up suggestions for improving and clean- Jnf op the town, presented it to the puyor and had already had a horse shoeing place moved off the side walk and three small bridges put in. A traveling library has also been se wed from the State Library Com mission. ience of the rooms, the porches before starting the new house. The same lumber with a little different arrange ment will build a much more attrac tive house. . . Mr. J. A. Kendall, the "Whale", has ! recently built a house of this type which is so pretty. Already he haf shrubs, vines, grass, flowers and trees growing about it which add greatly to the attractiveness. . Mrs. W. N. Hendley is adding a new dining room on the South side which promises to be the prettiest room in the house. The bodies of all the large elm trees forming a lane leading up to the house had boen white washed, this with the green crass, larce snow ball bushes and roses in bloom on the side made such an attractive and clean looking en trance to the home. We visited on this trip the families of Mesdames W. S. Pope, W. T. Pope, Cabbie McLendon, J. A. Crump, Hamn Colson. J. E. Harkey. T. M. Hendley, Stella Howell, J. A. Ken dall, Gilmore, and W. N. Hendley, and joined, the poultry, the gardens, the flowers, all being given special at tention. MR. BOSWELL WILL NOT RUN FOR MAYOR. Dear Editor: Will you allow me space to cor rect a statement appearing in your is sue of the seventh instant, in which it was stated tnat there was a rumor that I would be a candidate for Mayor of Wadesboro in the coming municipal election. I am sure that I have no idea as to the identity of your informant and I do not care to be en- ightened. I wish to say however, that who ever the party may be, had about as much authority to make that state ment as the King of the Cannibal Isl ands (who ever that Royal Highness may be) has ability to direct the workings of the League of Nations. In my humble opinion, if we had none of that kind among our citizenship, we could very well dispense with the need of a Mayor, for though it may take but half of our time to attend to our own business, we would be extremely busy the other half, letting other peo ple's business alone. Yours very respectfully, low. cost of sale and advertising will be added. W. S. BRASWELL, Sheriff, Anson County. WADESBORO TOWNSHIP White. Bennett, Joe and J. F. Icard , acre 3 -- 22.12 Bennett. R'Y.
