LOCAL BRIEFS. Mr. D. P. Glascoe has o l his house and lot in Shelt. 10 Mr. J. F; Ledford, the consick-r ation being $1500. The Star is indebted to Mr. p, n, Wilson, a prosperous far mer of No. 6 township, for some fine melons which he presented to us yesterday. A glorious meeting closed at Oak Grove church a few days ago conduct d by Rev. John Mo ton. There wei e 25 conversions and it was most fruitful in results. A protracted meeting began at Double Springs church Sun day and will continue during the week. Rev. D. G. Washburn, the able and zealous pastor, is conducting the meeting. The attractive Miss Bertha Lattimore, a daughter of Mr. C B. Lattimore, of Delight, accep ted a position with the J. L. But tle Co., and will begin her new duties in their store on August 20th. . Mr. A. E. Elmore has moved into the 0. R. Doggett house which was recently vacated by Mr. H. . Kendall, the latter having moved into his handsome new residence which was recent ly completed. -Messrs. E. Y. Webb, J. Frank Harris and C. R. Uoey have sold their plantation near Cleveland Springs to Mr. M. L. Borders, the consideration being $2900 cash. Mr. Borders will occupy it after the first of Janu ary. Mr. E. E Lfmmond, who has been living at Mansfield, La . has accepted a position with the Fertilizer and Oil Works at Co Iambus, Miss. Mrs. Lemmond is visiting her sister, Mrs. Joe L Suttle, of Shelby, and her many friends are gJad to wel come her to Shelby again. Misses Sarah and Luakelley, of Charlotte, are guests at the Collegp Hotel this week. Mr. T. W. Kendnck, of Kin- ston, is spending a few davs with relatives here. Miss Lidda Wasnburn, after a pleasant v'sit to relatives at Bostic, returned to Mr. T. B. Washburn's last week. Miss Ora Flack, after a pleas ant and extended visit to frieuds and relatives in Shelby, returned to Forest City last week. Mr R. R. Haynes, of Uiffside, was a Shelby visitor Sunday. Messrs. Charlie Washburn and Hudson Ellis, of Shelby, Mr. James Moore, of Caroleen, Mr. Garry Hamrick, of Lattimore, and Misses Maude and Maoei Doggett, of Shelby, left Monday for Lawndale to enter Piedmont High School. Mr. S. M. Evans, of Atlanta, Ga., arrived Saturday and will spend a few days here. His many old friends are glad to see him in Shelby again. Mr. W. A. Martin, or Fans, Texas, arrived last week and will spand several weeks in Shelby and Cleveland county. He visited friends in Kutherford county last week. Mr. Martin is a prosperous and prominent business man of Texas and is most cordiallv eieeted by his many old friends.
