On March 20 the boys of Cleveland county, who are at . Wake Forest col lege, were entertained at the homc!of Mr. Cullen Mull by a barbecue and party. Mr, Mull is 'a former1 "'citizen of j Cleveland county and has been liv ing in Wake county for more than three years. Although having moved nto a new section of the r.taie and having made new friends, he has not forgotten his host of friends and lov ed ones back home. And so with that love burning in his heart, he felt in. clined to express it for his old home by entertaining .the boys at Wake Forest college from Cleveland with the best that his farm produced. Besides the roast pig and the gen erous hospitality of his own home, his friends and neighbors of the commun ity joined heartily in helping him make the occasion a great success. Cleveland county is one of the fore mpst, countiea of the state repre sented at Wake Forest. Mr. T. E. Holding, one of Wake county's suc cessful bankers and a friend of all the college boys was alro a guest of Mr. Mull, and he addressed the club there. Mr. Holding paid a great tri bute to our home county as he spoke of her prosperity and her great num ber of prominent men, he spoke of her financial accomplishments and pru dent business management as repre sented by the Blantons, her oratori cal, intellectual and spiritual geniuses as represented by the Dixons, and her prominence in high statesmanship and political science as represented by the Webbs. Mr. Holding endeavored in a very forceful way to inspire both .the ladies and men who were present to imitate these stars of old Cleveland. This prominent man of broad vision attributes to Cleveland county first place in the number of great men pro duced in the state who have taken their degree at Wake Forest. After the supper of roasted pig, roasted potatoes, and egg?, the Indies entertained with music and j.:an:e3 in which the men eagerly joined. The whole affair greatly interested the western boys for it was a new cus tom to see a whole hOg roasting over live coals. After bidding the host adieu the club marched back to the campus in a body, a distance of three miles, to live in seclusion for another spell. W. L. McSWAIX, Sec. HAMRICK DENIES v INSOLVENCY CASH MILLS Receiver Denies Allegation of Insolvencq Filed by Some of ' Creditors. Dr. W. C. Hamrick, receiver for the Cash Cotton mills in Gaff ney, S. C, Tuesday appeared before the United States district court in Greenville and filed an answer denying the allega- tio'n of insolvency contained in a pe tition recently filed by A. C. Walker, Charles L. O'Neal and company and others. Dr. Hamrick's answer alleges that the Cash, mills is a solvent con cern and demands a trial by jury on the petition asking that the mills be adjudged bankrupt. The petition asking that the cor poration be adjudged bankrupt, was filed on March 9, and list indebted ness aggregating $120,246. Dr. Ham rick, in his answer, admits that the petitioners are creditors to the ex tent named by each but denies that the mills are hopelessly insolvent, de claring in effect that" the property is wort hmuch more than the sum total of the debt's owed 1 by it. Dr. Hamrick was first appointed tenv porary receiver of the mills some three months' ago on the petition of the Fame creditors who filed the pe tition on March 9. Later a supple mentary order was issued appointing Dr. Hamrick as permanent receiver. A jury trial' wiirbe ordered and the case may be heard at the next term of federal court. ' .' The Cash mills company was or ganized a little over a year ago with an authorized capital of $500,000. CM 2-1 -FOR- i I wish to notify all persons who have as yet not paid their 1920 taxes that I must have same by the last of May 1921. 1 know that this has been a hard; year on the farmers of this County and I have no desire to force col lections, but at the last monthly meeting of the Board of County Commissioners I was ordered to force collections on all taxes that are not paid' on the 1st day of May 1921. The County and State are badly in need of funds so kindly make your payment just as soon as possible. I recently received an urgent request from the State Treasurer for a settlement in full, but have deferred this in order to keep the County Treasurer in funds. Therefore unless you wish to add further costs for collecting let me have remittance before the above date and if possible let me have the amount at once.
