The living room and dining room were thrown on suite, and here the club members enjoyed the games. Christmas decorations were used ef fectively and an electrically lighted and beautifully decorated Christmas tree in the corner of the room added much to the festive look. Holly and j poinsetties in silver vases were used and on the mantles red candles and miniature green pots with poinsettias were placed at intervals. The tables had miniature Santa Clauses for cen ter piece- and little “Santa” baskets held salted nuts. The score cards car ried out the Christmas suggestions. Mrs. Gardner assisted by her mother, Mrs. J. L Webb and sister Mrs. Riley and Miss Murchison, served hot fried oyster sandwiches, chicken salad, cof fee, cheese biscuits and ambrosia, m nts and cake. Ed Post Jr. Celebrates ltirthday. Twenty little friends of Ed Post jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Post, met at his home Friday afternoon to cele brate hi; seventh birthday. The home was decorated with holly, Christmas bolls and other things suggestive of the season. After the guests assem bled, with the assistance of Miss f.aura Cornwell, games were played for an hour. Then the children went into the prettily decorAted dining room where ice cream and caKe were served. The table was most attract ively decorated. Mrs. Mary Eskrige was hostess at a lovely dinner party at Cleveland Springs hotel Tuesday evening, hon oring the Blanton family. The dining room was artistically decorated with Christmas evergreen and the table wa3 perfect in its appointments. Mrs. Riley Entertains 'the Sunbeams. Mrs. S. R. Riley entertained the Sunbeams of the First Baptist church on Tuesday afternoon at four, o’clock with a ‘Christmas Tree” party. Ices and cakes were served by Mrs. Riley assisted by her mother Mrs. J. L. Webb, Mrs. O. Max Gardner and Mrs. Hudson. «, Golf at Clrve'and Christmas Day. The golf links of Cleveland Springs were vSry popular on Christmas day. .There were several ‘foursomes’ on the fairways and greens, and “twosomes” were much in evidence. The cours was a little heavy owing to the recent ruins, out the gum'e was much enjoy ed by the golfers despite the heavi ness of the course. Xmas Day I)innor Parties At Cleveland Springs. Several dinner parties were given at Cleveland Springs hotel on Christ mas day. Among those reserving tables were Mr, and Mrs. Paul Webb, covers for 12; Mr. and Mrs, Vernon Proctor, covers for six; and Mrs. Mary Esk ridge covers for 14. Mr. Vanstory’s dinners are famous over the state and Shelby people be sides outsiders enjoy these delightful meals on holiday occasions. Jenkins-Laughinghouse Wedding Solemnized. Cordial and social interest center ed throughout North Carolina, in the marriage of Miss Margaret Brice Jenkins and Mr. Haywood Dale Laugliingbou.se which was solemnized Thursday December 27th at high noon at the home of the bride’s par ents Mr. and Mrs. J. Frank Jenkins, on South Washington street. The impressive ceremony was per formed by Rev. W. A. Murray of the First Presbyterian church in the ptes ence of a small gathering of friends ar.d relatives. The lovely young bride was radiantly beautiful as she entered with her father, Mr. J. Frank Jenkins who gave her in marri age. They were joined at the altar by the groom and his brother, Charles Laughinghouse, jr., who acted as bist man. The bride was beautifully gowned in a picturesque modti of white bro caded satin. The bodice reflected the bateau neck line and from the should ers the double tyain fell. The veil was confine# to her dark hair in coronet fashion .with orange blossoms, and fell gracefully t<, the bottom of the skirt. She wore a very handsome im ported necklace and earrings of ivory the gift of the groom." She carried a gorgeous bridal bou quet of orchids brides roses and val ley lillies with shower of valley lillies extending to the floor. Folowmg the ceremony an informal buffet luncheon was served. Her mother was formerly Miss Julia Brice, coming from South Carolina where she is most promin ently connected. Mr Laughinghouse is a prominent young business man of Greenville, this state. Miss Millicent Blanton was the charming hostess at an elegant dinner party given at Cleveland Springs hotel on Tuesday, evening honoring Miss Margaret Jenkins who married on Thursday. The table suggested the holiday season to the minutest detail. The center piece was a large Christ mas bell and from tliis holly trailers extended to each plate where a Santn ( laus place card was found. Lovely Chr;simas baskets were placed at each plate and a delicious seven course dinner was served in faultless style. O'Brian-Graham Wedding. Cliaracter:zed by great beauty ana centering the interest of many friends was the marriage of Miss Elizabeth O’Brian and Mr. Burton Graham, which wai solemnized on Saturday December 22 at high noon at the home of the bride’s sister Mrs. Mau rice Green on South DeKalb street. Rev. R .L. Lemons, pastor of the First Baptist churph read the impressive ring ceremony in the presence of an assemblage of relatives and friends. Throughout the reception room, ferns, baskets and vases of roses were gracefully arranged. Trailing vines of ivy festooned the door arches and windows. The mart age wras solemnized in the reception room before an improvised a.tar of ferns and palms, forming a rich, dark background for the lovely arch wh'ch was made of ivy entwined with roses and festooned by pillars on either side. These held baskets of roses the handles of which were tied with bows of tulle. In the center of the arch was an*immense wedding bell bow of tulle. Preceding the ceremony a lovely musical program was render ed; M:ss Mary Griffin was pianist, as. sisted by Mr. W. S. Buchanan violin ist who played "To a Wild Rose” and “Traumeri” “Call Me Thine Own” and “At Dawning” were sung by Miss Bertha Bostick. During the ceremony “Venetian I,ove Song’ was softly rlayed. Mendelssohn’s Wedding March” announced the approach of the bridal party. A wedding of much interest was that of Miss May Belle Hartncss to! Mr. Gordon Dudley, jr., which was! solemnized at the home of the bride’s j parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. First to enter was the maid of honor, Miss Wilma Hartness looking charming in a dress of blue satin and a lovely blue hat. The bride entered with the groom. She was gowned in a beautiful brown velvet so becoming to her, and a brown her., slippers and g’oves com pleted the costume. A charming holiday “scrip” dance was held in Company K Armory Wednesday evening from nine until one. Among those enjoying the dance besides local people were the" young Shelby college set and their holiday visitors ,the Laughinghouse-Jenkins bridal party and a number of young folks from Gastonia. Music was fur nished by a Charlotte orchestra.
