Solicitor J. M. Carson 18th District Is Dead Dralh follow*; an Operation in Kulh erfordion Saturday Complica tions Set in. Solicitor James M. Carson, of the 18th judicial district, died at the Rutherford hospital early Tuesday morning. He underwent an operation Saturday morning for tumor of the bowels. Complications set. i„ Monday n*ght, and <lespite ceaseless attention by physicians death followed swiftly. Mr. Carson, 52 years of age, was a rfiember of the Presbyterian church and of the Junior order. He js sur vived by his widow, five children and bis aged mother. He war a member of the beard of trustees of the Uni. versity of North Carolina. Hr stud ied law at Wake Forest and th uni verrdty. For the past year Mr. Carson war solicitor of the Rutherford district. He was one of Rutherford’s most .suc cessful lawyers, having especially claimed prominence as a solicitor. Aside from his legal achievements, Mr. Carson was one of the county’s most prominent ‘ citizens, having re presented Rutherford in the lgis lature. His death, while not unex pected, came as a great shook to his thousands of friends throughout the state. Dairy and Cattle Meetings Scheduled (Extension Service.) Three dairy cattle meetings will he held in the county next week in the interest of more and better dairy cat tle. Free moving picture shows will be given at Belwood school house on Thumlay night January 17, and a tree moving picture of dairying at the Mooresboro school house on Fri day nigftt, January IK, together with short talks on dairying. Mr. J. A. A;ey, state dairyman, J. A. McClain, from the department of agriculture at • Washington, I). C,, and a represen tative from the American Jersey Cattle club will be present at each one of these meetings, and every breeder of registered cattle and ev ery cream producer in the county should be present at these meeting . Cleveland county is one of the lead ing dairy counties of the state but there is room for improvement for better cows and pastures, and every dairyman in the cognty should .be present at the meetings. Jersey Cuttle Meeting. A meeting of the Cleveland County Jersey cattle club will be held in the court house In Shelby Friday, Janu ary 18th, at 11 o’clock to elect offi cer.", for the year 1924,* make plans for getting a earload of registered Jersey cattle in the county, and for mulate plans and make arrangements about getting a cow testing associa tion in the county. It will also be de cided whether Cleveland county will put on a carload of show cattle at the fairs next, full, and make applica tion for the next annual-sale of regis tered Jersey cattle' for Shelby. Much interest is being manifested in every section of the county for registered Jersey cattle and from in dications now a car load of cattle can be brought in the county this spring. Ten head of registered Jersey cattle were purchased at the Stale Jersey | cuttle salt- at Hickory recently, and .1 | R. Price, a progressive farmer from the Oasar section of the county, stat ed this week that he and the farmers in this community hntf decided to get eight bead of registered Jersey cat tle, but, wanted 1 hem from register or merit cattle with a record before them.
