Bruyer who has been teaching school for a number of years, two of our good Cleveland County people lived in Lumberton, N. C., the home of Mr. A, W. McLean n few years ago be. fore he thought of running for of fice, and when they had an opportune ity of learning the worth and morjj^~ ' of tit*' man free from political as pirations. This is what they have to say about Mr. McLean as a private citizen. To the Democratic Voters of Cleve land County:— I lived in Lumberton, N. C. sev eral years ago when I learned to know Mr. A. W. McLean personally. I am pleased to say that he is a most excellent man. He is well liked by his neighbors and all who know him. He is one of the largest farmers of his county and the farmers of his section believe in him. He has the confidence of his home people. He began life a very poor hoy, doing all kinds of furm work for his father who lived on and cultivated a small farm. With this small beginning, Mr. McLean by his splendid ability and honesty has made a remarkable suecess. In addition to hir. farming he has helped to promote and is interested in much of the bus. iness being done in hfs home county, I believe he will use the same good judgment in looking after the state’s business that he has in conducting his own, and will therefore make us a great governor. For that reason I am going to vote for him and ask my neighbors and friends of Cleveland County to do likewise. Respectfully, Coy McSwain. To the Editor of the Star:— I taught school in Lumberton for two years and am pleased to say that I know Mr. A. W. McLean personal ly. He is a very friendly man, kind and helpful to strangers and liked by all who know him. He has donfc much for his home county and town. He is a large farmer and interested in practically all the business done yi that section. He began lTFe as the oldest son of a very small larmej, and by his good judgment, good char, acter and willingness to work has made a wonderful success. I believp ho will apply the same good qualities to the conduct of the State’s business and make us a great governor. Yours truly, Miss Agnes McBrayer. (Political Advertisement) Bob Gantt Asks For Support Of J. E. Lonir' Mr. Lee B. Weathers, Shelby, N. C. Dear Lee: While in Shelby and Cleveland a few days ago, several people made inquiries of me concerning J. Elmer Lon|r of Durham, who is a candidate for the nomination of the Democratic party for the office of Lieutenant-gov ernor, ; subject to the action of the pri mary of June 7th. Always being interested in any matter of public concern, whether it pertains to men or things that , any person or number of persons in Clev eland county are or might be interest ed, I am writing this relative to Mr. Long. It is a fact that all of us, pay but little attention, if any, generally, to the candidate or candidates for the office of Lieutenant-governor, when it should be otherwise, for he can by vir tue of his position as presiding offi cer of the Senate, to a very great ex tent, shape and control all legislation that comes up for consideration and passage. So naturally that office (and all others for that matter) should be filled by a man of character and abil ity. When I say this I do not nega tively refer to the opponents of Mr. Long in this race, for so far as I know they both possess these attributes. I have know J. Elmer Long, well, for a number of years. He is a man of the highest character and integ rity, an able lawyer, a good business man and an experienced legislator. He is a fine stump speaker and cam paigner, and if nominated, he would along with the successful nominee of the party for Governor, help head and make a great campaign for the party in the fall. i Very truly yours, R. M. GANTT. Durham, N. C. (Political Advertisement.) LITTLE CHILD DIES AT ELLA MILL VILLAGE Lily Elizabeth Cochrane, 20 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B.
