GAFFNEY SHOWS INTERESTIN BICE Gaffney People Would Like to See Structure Erected Over Broad River at Ellis Ferry. Gaffney Ledger. Gaffney and Cherokee county peo. pie generally are much interested in the proposal now under consideration by the commissioners of Cleveland county to bridge Broad river at the site of the old Ellis ferry and thus I open a way for a short route from | Gaffney to Shelby. The Cleveland ! commissioners- are scheduled to meet1 at the site Monday afternoon to def- j initely decide on the project, and it is likely that a number of Gaffney i and Cherokee county people will at tend the meeting. A Gaffney man who is interested in the project yesterday declared that practically everybody between Gaff ney and the river will be on hand for the occasion when the Shelby officials and Cleveland county people are ex- i pc-cted to cross the river in bateaus at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon. Mayor R. A. Jones yesterday said i he is heartily in favor of the con* struction of the bridge, but that he did not feel that it would be the prop er thing for him to attempt to use his official position in influencing the of ficials of the North Carolina county in their decision. Under the circum-, stances, he will not attend the meet ing at the proposes! bridge site, he said, but he hopes that the structure will he erected. U. S. Lipscomb, cashier of the Mer chant and Planters National bank, 1 stated that he is always in favor of i opening up new roads and improving highway facilities. There need be no fear that the Cleveland county pro ject, if caried to a successful conclu. sion, will hurt Gaffney in the least, he declared The bridge will open up new trade territory for this city as well ns for Shelby and Mr. Lipscomb said he feels certain Gaffney will get a reasonable share of this business. Other local business men also en dorsed the erection of the proposed bridge. VRY STAK WANT ADM. EVANS E.
