The Horse Brfore the Cart, a race of daring and skill the hors* pushing the cart while the driver faces the horse, riding backward Free Act* before the grandstand daily; no long tedious waits, something doing every minute. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 15th. RUTHERFORD AND GASTON DAY. Races—2:18 Trot, Purse Races—2:15 Pace, Purse The Guideless Wonders. The Ruhe Race. Exhibition of mounted drill, fancy riding, hurdling, high-jump ing; Roman riding, and many other feats of daring and horseman ship will l>e presented by the Famous Eincoln Cavalry, under com mand of Captain Adrin Lineberger. The Lincoln boys will he with us for several days to entertain and amuse us as well as to instruct us in the use of the cavulry during war times, give them the glad hand, they are all good fellows, visit their camp on the grounds and see how they do things in true military style. Also other free acts. THU RSDAY OCTOBER ICth. HIWA.VIS AND LINCOLN DAY. Races -2:20 ^ Trot, Purse RAC ES-—2:18 Pace, Purse Tournament riding, any one in Clove land county eligible. Fancy drill and guard mount by our own crack Military Com pany, wdio will also camp on thotggnunda; this company will stage n rhant battle and give other maneuvers'too numerous to mention. EXHIBITS. 1. —The same article or animal cannot compete for two or more premium numbers, except sweepstakes, or when otherwise stated in the head-notes in the department in which it is exhibited. 2. —AH entries must be numbered and recorded in the books of the proper department and class, and correspondent? tags will be Is sued, which must be attached to exhibit before such can he placed on exhibition. 3- No person will be allowed to see the entries or have ac cess to the entry book until after the awards have been made. 4. —Exhibitors munt see to the delivery of nny articles or live stock oh the groundsj and to the proper care of the latter, as no charges for transportation or tLrayage will be paid by the Associa tion. 5. --Tho grounds will.be in readiness for the reception of exhib its Saturday October llth. Exhibitors can have the use of the halls and grou coo reasonable number of days before the opening day prop' the'Hit mging and placing of their exhibits, hence there is no good reason for delny. 7-—Exhibitors should make thrmselves acquainted with the Premium List and Regulation, and be sure in whut department and class their entries belong. 3-—Competition is open to the world, exerpt where speeificnl ly noted. 9.—No entrance fee will be charged exhibitors except Poultry, This is neeessury that poultry may bo property fed nnd cared Cor by the Association. 10- The original entry card must in all rases be attached to the exhibit except in the case of animals, when the card may be placed conspicuously upon the stall or pen. 11. —A11 exhibits sent by freight or express must be Prepaid and all plainly marked to "Secretary Fair, Shelby, N, C.” must also have shipper name and address on them, and accompanied by bil; of lading that they may be property eared for. 12. —Complaints and protests must be made in writing to the Secretary, who Will promptly bring them before the executive com mittee. 13. —Every exhibitor, concessionaire, employee or any othci person having business on the grounds is required to abide by tiiesf or any other rules that may be formulated by the Fair Association through its authorized officials, and the Fair Association reserve; the right to construe its rules and regulations, and arbitrarily de termina and settle all matters and differences in regard thereto, 14. —No person will be permitted to remain on the Fait Grounds over night excepting those holding permits, which can Ik secured from the Secretary. n' PREMIUMS 1.—A premium ribbbs or diploma is a badge <>1 merit, and 'll no case should it be attached to an article or animal where mrrito rioUs qualities arc lacking. 1 U . 8.—Toe premiums ore designated by ribbons: Blue moaning firat; Rod, second and White, third premium. These ribbons will be attached,by the director,of-each department after judges or com. mittees have made their ^wnrds, and same have benn approved. 8.—The Fair Association deems its beautifully engraged dtplo. ma, of equal value of aqy first premium offered, winners of first premium* in either the livestock or poultry departments, will be at liberty to commute a money premium for a Diploma, we make thb offer in view of. the fact that often exhibitors of livestock and poultry are also,breeders of fancy stock for sale, and therefore like to have something that will show the winning merits of their ani mats, our Diplomu will do this as no other premium or award pos sibly could. INSTRUCTIONS TO DEPARTMENT SUPERINTENDENTS ANP DIRECTORS. 1. —No Director of any department will be permitted to employ help without Written permission from the Secretary. An order for all supplies must be obtained from the Secretary. 2. —Director* will receive all property entered for exhibition, and sue that tags are securely attached, and arrange such prop erty in a suitable and attractive manner. 2-—They will also see that property is not removed before the appointed time, and that the checks are detached from property when remover! A* a means to prevent fraud and mistakes by such removal. , <•—They will sec that their departments are kept clean and orderly at all times. JUDGES 1. —The Judges of Awards when ready for duty shall be furn ished by the Secretary with a list of all entries in their respective Department*, and books in which their awards are to be recorded. 2. —Judges ore especially instructed not to award premiums to any animal or-article because of its presence. It must be individ ually worthy. It is not the policy of this association to encourage indifferent production of any kind, or to distribute premiums equal ly among exhibitors, and no fjremiums should be awarded to any animal or article that doe* not possess high intrinsic merit. *.—The Director in charge shall attend the Judges when mak ing the examinations in their respective departments, apd furnish them with any desired information. Premium* will not be paid parth having exhibits where it is proven that they accompanied the 3- ■ ‘ 5 when awarding the premiums. As the awards are made the t :- .;or will attach the ribbon indicating the award.
