Jersey Calf Club To
Exhibit At The Fair

The Cleveland County Jersey Calf
club which has six members are
planning on exhibiting their calves at
the county fair next week. Each boy
has a registered Jersey calf and is
going to make the older cattle breed
ers set up and take notice in order to
beat them. Each member has clipped
his calf arid polished its horns and is
giving it lesson in showing each day.
A boys livestock judging contest
will he held Thursday morning Oc
tober 10th for the boys in Cleveland,
Gaston- and Rutherford counties be
tween the ages of ten and 1!> years.
Classes of dairy cattle anil hogs will
be placed by the hoy and should prove
an interesting feature of the fair. Any
hoy wishing to enter the judging con
test should report Thursday morning
at 10 o'clock.
Apple Exhibit Is To
Be A Fair Feature

The apple exhibit promises to be
one of the most attractive booths at
the fair. Mr. E. T<. Weathers, superin
tendent of the horticultural depart
ment, says we have the largest crop
of apples in the history of Cleveland
county and a large exhibit is expect
ed at the fair. Prizes are offered for
plates of five apple and best two hun
dred apples of any variety. Winning
exhibit of apples should be hand
picked from the tree afr<T all apples
the same size, color and fre^ from
specks, cuts and bruises with the

street, honoring Mr. and Mrs. Claude

Beam, of Fallston, N. C. The double
wedding of Mr. and Mrs. MeCraw
and Mr. and Mrs. Beam which oc
curred in Shelby last week was
