Ruiherfordton will soon havo a

erford hospitul. The present Country
club house and golf course is located
between here and Forest City. The
lease on the latter expires Junuary
1 and it will be moved here. The new
course will be located on the property
of Dr. Henry Norris. Grass will be
sown and everything possible will
be done to promote the sport. Enough
trees are left on the land to afford
ample shade and shrubbery. The lo
cation is ideal. It is accessible and
affords a variety for every hole.

County Medical society was held at
the Isothermal hotel Tuesday at 1
p. m. with the Rutherford hospital
physcians attending the meeting. Dr.
John H. Jopson, Prominent surgeon
of Philadelphia, who is visiting Dr.
and Mrs. Henry Norris, was the prin- j

Ten leading citizens of the town went
to Forest City Monday night to hear
District Governor Felix Harvey <li:;
uss Kiwanism. This same ten men
held n meeting at the Central hotel
here Tuesday at noon and discussed
and planned the organization. A pros
pertive list of one hundred men has
been selected and will be invited to
meet with representatives from hto
Kiwanis clubs of Forest City, Shel
by, Marion, Morganton, Hickory
and other nearby towns Friday night,
either in the Iso Thermal hotel or
the basement of the First Baptist
church. About one hundred men are
expected to attend this meeting Fri
day evening ad a club here will- like
ly be organized . Temporary officers
and directors have been selected and
will push the organization.
The old G. L. Doggett home near
Forest City, which was probably the
oldest residence in this county was
burned Saturday at noon when a
spark of fire thought to come from
the atove flue, caught in the roof
und burned the house down in a few
minutes. The house was about 1100
years old and was a long house. Noth
ing was .saved except one bedstead
and a few clothes. It was a two-story
building. The loss was from $1,000 to
$1,500 with no insurance. The smoke
house and ahale of cotton, the seed
from another bale of cotton also
went up in the flumes. Mrs. Laura
Doggett and son, Frank, lived in the
house.

To Death Wednesday

Played In The Fire.
Janies Surratt, three and a half
year old child of Gus Surratt, negro
tenant on the W. C. Harris farm op
erated by George Magness just, on
the west edge of Shelby was burned
to death Wednesday when its cloth
ing caught from an open fire place,
while its mother was doing washing
and the child was left in the care of
his sister, age 5 years. These two and
one smaller child were left in the
house by their mother, when James
the 3 ,1-2 year old began playing in
the fire, according to its older sister's
story. The clothing caught and every
thing the child had on, except the
neck band of its shirt and its shoes
were burned from its body. This
happened about 10 o’lock Wednesday
morning an dthe child die dthat af
ternoon about 4:30 o’clock, the little
black child’s skin being burned all
over, from which it suffered agony.
