Detroit > FUVVER SAN If you are approaching a crossing awl cannot get across safely, shut off the gas. If you don’t snaps M. D. Hopper the train is likely to shut off your breath. “What style of car do you drive?” “A detouring car.” Why doesn’t some inventor come forward aska John Beam with an au tomobile shock absorber that will make tilings easier for the pedestrian. “Ned" McLean is letting his George Harvey rattle like a broken automo bile fender, between the White House and the Senate Chamber. An undertaker who puts up near a bootlegger is as wise thinks Jack Palmer as a doctor who lives* near a railroad crossing. f O. C. Sarratt Say* it fills a man with a vast sense of importance to get about the streets of a city all day without being run down. The Woman Metoriat. When a wild and pop-eyed driver Shoots his auto down the street, He can make the public step about On light and nimble feet. He can make the bravest tremble, He can make the boldest quail. But they say “the female driver Is more deadly than the male.” What a difference in the speed of a man’s car when he is bragging about it to a friend or lyjng about it to a judge. Nowadays it takes two licenses to marry a girl—marriage and automo bile. Advice to Motorists. , 1. Don’t run over small boys; they might have nails in their pockets. 2. Always sound horn when crossing railroad tracks. The most important nut on an au tomobile thinks J. G. Newton is the fellow who drives it. Try This Dish. Take one reckless'! natural-born fool; two or three big drinks of bad liquor; a high-powered, fast motor car. Soak fool in liquor, place io car and let go. After due tlma, remove from wreckage, place in black, satin-lined box and garnish with flowers. The Ford car has now fallen in nrice to that of a high-grade cow, but Charles Eskridge1 says one takes gas oline and the ether gives milk. Rev. A. L. Stanford say* some peo ple’s brains are like emergency brakes. They never think to use them. The purchaser of a new auto usual ly buys a feather duster and goes ovfr ♦he car a dozen times a day—then loses the duster, snaps Bill McCord. “Daddy”, said his weeping little daughter, “a naughty man broke my new sled with his automobile.” “Did he ? " cried her fattier, jumping up. “Where is he?” “Oh, you’ll easily catch him, daddy,’ .said the little one. “Two men just car ried him into a drug store.” 1 “A town says T. W. Hamrick that is too poor to afford a “white way” hasn’t much to brag about except its traffic problem. Chicken Versus Cotton. (From Stanly News-Herald.) Speaking of cotton «s a profitable crop and as a leader, did you know that the poultry crop produced by Stanly farmers the past year brought in more ready cash than the entire cot ton crop? And we produced around 500 bales more last year than we did the year before. That’s another eye opener. Life's Too Good. (From Greensboro News.) The inmates of the state prison must be a singularly perverse, for ward and ungrateful set, even for criminals and accursed. Despite the coddling already practiced and the imminent prospect of being silk-pa jamacd and fed on humming birds’ tongues, a lot of them risked death by exposure in the swamps in winter— and some got it—a week or two ago, in a break for liberty. In another break one has been shot to death and another wounded, a third exodus with in a fortnight. Carolina Motor Inn HALL TILLMAN, Prop. —i .. * With The Shelby Automobile Dealers .'12.000 First Year. Cnbanies and Norman who have the agency for the Maxwell and Cryaler cars expect a good season and are making preparations for the same. Mr. Cryaler is considered one of the finest automobile engineers in America nhd the first year he put out the Crysler, 82,000 cars were sold, yet he was un able to supply the demand. Last week Cabanias and Norman sold a Reo truck to Coleman Blanton who will use it for milk delivery on the Brushy Creek Dairy farm. 150 Fordson Owners. Charles L. Eskridge reports that a recent survey reveals the fact that there are 150 farmers in Cleveland county using Ford3on tractors. Most of them attended the tractor school conducted for two (lavs at his place of business on West Marion street and heard the interesting and helpful talks made by tractor experts. Mr. Eskridge received last week another ear load of Ford cars nnd Fordsons, making ready for the opening of spring busi ness. Will Sell Atwater-Kent. The best selling season for radios is about over, but Mr. Mauney states that he will keep a few all summer nnd make a special drive on them next fall. Lackey had a letter of appre ciation from a Buick owner last week which he regards highly. A Buick owner reached Shelby late at night and car trouble prevented his going further until repairs were made. All (rara"es were closed, but he phoned Mr. Lackey at 11 o’clock and the cus tomary Buick service was promptly rendered, although the hour was late and the price of the job w as really not worth the trouble. This man’s car was quickly repaired nnd he soon went on his way rejoicing, singing the praises of Buick service which extended all over the United States. There is talk of higher bread prices.
