DO YOUR SPRING SHOPPING WITH US AND BRING YOUR PRODUCE TO THE STAMEY COMPANY FALLSTON, N. C. Charlotte, Feb. 26.—Thomas I. Watson, of Greensboro, was acquit ted by a jury this afternoon of a charge of second degree murder in connection .with the slaying of Joseph E. McDonough, also of Greensboro, whom Watson is alleged to have found in a hotel room with his wife. The jury was out forty three minutes. Loud cheering broke out In the packed court-room when the verdict was announced, and it was with diffi culty that Judge Henry P. Lane, pre siding, restored quiet. Mrs. Watson, wife of the defend ant, broke into a half-shriek, half sob of joy, when the verdict w'as announc ed as she sat beside her father, R. M. Miller, of Texas, then she rush ed to her husband, threw her arms around him and wept on his shoulder, lie displayed virtually no emotion. Watson was recognized to appear tomorrow for trial on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon. He shot and killed McDonough in the presence of a police officer who went with him to a local hotel room to arrest Mc Donough and Mrs. Watson, who had registered at the hotel as husband and wife. When the two were identi fied by Watson, he fired a bullet into the heart of McDonough. He was ar rested and ha: been in jail since. Mrs. Watson' is scheduled to .be tried to morrow on an immoral conduct charge. McDonough’s body was sent to rel atives in Cincinnati. He had been em ployed in Greensboro only a few months, Co-op Marketing Is Hope of Farmers Nows and Observer. Three years ago, when the price of tobacco and cotton were below the cost of production, the disheartened farmers found hope in the Co-opera tive Association which they formed. Many of them signed contract; to pool tl'.eir crop for five years. The courts have upheld the validity of those contracts. It is now attempted to secure legislation which will make these contracts void. It is unwise legislation even if it were constitutional. There are two more years for the contract to run. If those who are not .entirely satis sfied,._do. not v^sh to renew it,, they are free to separate themselves from the organization. But the Co-opera tive Association incurred large ex penditures to serve the farmers who joined. They should live up to their | contract. There is no legal way to re lieve them. Co-operative marketing is to be come, when perfected, the hope of I agricultural prosperity. Sandy Knew The Difference. “Weil Sandy,” said the laird, “you are getting very bent. Why don't you stand up straight like me, man?” “Eh, man, do you see that field of wheat over there?” “I do,” returned the laird. “A!i well, you’ll notice that the full heads hang down an' the empty ones stand up.”—Everybody’s.
