SCHOOL AT KNOB CRKKK ' j • PLANS CONSOLIDATION ti med district and many interesting patrons therein says County Superin tendent Newton. “The representatives present at this gatherin'!: were unani mous in their approval and desire for a big consolidated school. The meet ing was evidence of an ever growing sentiment for the larger' and better type of schools. Connoiidutk n in Clev eland county is rapidly gaining mo mentum and it can be assumed that within the next three or four years, the full county-wide plan will be put into operation. The purpose of the plan is to equalize educational oppor t nitiea for all children, no matter how remote they may live from their school." Two Other Madifications. Anmncr meeting v^,!l i-o held in the court house on the first Monday in June, two other meetings are to he hold in the court house auditorium with a view to modifying the county wide plan ns relatin'; to the schools of No. 5 and No. 8 townships. At. some future date, in accordance with this iilan, all the schools of No. f> township exclusive of Plonks school, are to be consolidated with Waco i state ac credited high school, say. Mr. Newton. “The board proposes to present this matter at this meeting to ; 1! the com mitteemen and interested patrons af fected hereby and after a full and free discussion, modify if deemed wise, the county-wide plan so as to permit the! consolidation of all two or more dis- j tricts. This does not grant those dis tricts remaining outside the privilege of affecting other consolidations .** relating to this township. Eventually all of these school.}, must become n part of the Waco school and the peo ple of No. 5 township arc justly en titled to be proud of Waco as a town ship high school, according to the school authorities. But few townships ir. the county can boast of a high school on the state accredited list. It would seem that in the end, if not now, nil the schools of No. 5 township and will want to be a part of tha Waco district. * 5 “The state ir. nc-V only accrediting high rchoclr today, but the elemen tary schools are likewise being placed on the standard list after the fulfill ment of certain condition's. The state t!w reforo, maker, no loan for any school building erected that contains less than seven, reins in that it re quires 7 teachers teaching 7 grades be fore any eleir'rtary ehool can he standardized. Lender.; in education have long since realized that small el ementary schools do not provide train ing sufficiently thorough to equip the pupils for entrance into high school and it in but, natural that the founda tion work should he strong and effec tive in order that the super-structure might at tain the utmost of strength. “Another meeting will be held for No. 8 town ship at 3:30 Monday June. 1 in the court house with a view to mod ifying the county-wide plan if deemed wise as nelating to the schools of No. 8 township, exclusive of Now Heuse. It is pn posed to modify the plan so as to consolidate Union. Fnirvicw and De light, into one big school, or either build a state high school to bo located at IVdkville and retain an elementary school at Union. Th" latter plan would involve the erection of an 8 or 10 room high school building at Polkville and the erection of a six room elementary building at Union. It is estimated that the two buildings fully equipped would cost from 845,000 to $50,000.” QUEEN HOBS HAIR: SO DO NEWSPAPER GIRLS IN PARIS Paris, May 22.—The Queen can do no wrong, as Kipling would say, but there arc several jeuner, Ova, queens in their own way, working in the of fices of Le Matin, one of the most celebrated of French newspapers, who will lose their jobs if they follow the Queen’s example. The Queen whose example the Matin girls cited n Her Majesty, the Queen of the Belgians. Her Majesty had her hair bobbed and when her ladies in waiting expressed dismay, Her Majesty replied with an epigram, "I fear niesdames, your hair is long er than your views,” The Matin featured the story of Her Majesty’s shingle, and the gills in the office were encouraged to fol low the royal dictum. But the stern journalistic directors reiterated their office dictum agairi3t bobbed hair of female clerks, stenographers, e!c. Yet fashion’s decrees are strong, a id it is said that the far-«eeiug Matin directors have not yet discovered that in one room where six black-hairod girl secretaries haye their desks, there is concealed a switch (hair) which will cover a shaven neck when one is called to take dictation.
