He war one at; easy to love as to admire, lit was ranked with the greatest of plat form speakers that the South has eVgf jtrodueed, and earned for himself Tt place among the elect editors of hjp day and generation, moved with facil ity and grace among the mighty arid companied with those of title aqd wealth and honor, and yet he kept his head and maintained the innate spirit of Democracy that in him catup j in to full flower. Born a South Carolinian, in ttfe ' conservative environs of Abbeville, | Mr. Graves soon became a Georgian and in that state won quickly for | himself the distinction of being the | logical successor of Henry W. Grudjjf ! as orator, writer and leader of thp forces of progressive thought and of action. Although a great editor, the gen ius of this man was in his oratori cal abilities. He has been heard hi this community several times as he made the rounds cf the ehautauqua circuit, his Armageddon oration last delivered here being regarded by him self as the materpiece of all of Its creations. As an orqior he possessed himself with case and grace on the platform and mellifluent language flowed grant fully from his Ups as he painted beauty or denounced vice. He could and did charm the multitudes whith er he was speaking his mcssagjy through his faqile pen or his ready lips and death hushed a golden voice when it called, in passing, and bech. oned him away.
