Picked With a Nail. “Charles Wilkins, 12-year-old son of Mr. John Wilkins, was picking his tooth with a nail last Wednesday night. It pays to diversify in farming and not depend upon one crop of any thing—not even politics. Republicans Meet. “The Republican senatorial conven tion of this district met at Mooresboro Saturday. Chairman Winslow culled the convention to order. J. L. Stroup of Gaston and W. J. Hogue of Cleve land secretary. “Rutherford'-county nominated For tune of Cleveland. \V. J. Hogue ot Cleveland nominated W. J. Mode ot Rutherford. After some sparing among the delegates the vote was taken and it stood: Fortune, 20; Mode 2. I*r. j. If. McBrayer and W. J. Hogue of Cleveland Were the two that voted for the Rutherford man., ‘The other senator was not nomin ated, but at the request of Populists present, the place was left for them to fill.” Train Derailed. •No. :52, south bound passenger train on the O. LEDFORD AND HIS PORTABLE WELDING OUTFIT ' Talk about service, here is a man who can take his machinery anywhere and serve his custom ers. K. N. Ledford who owns and operates the Shelby Welding Plant down in the Lineberg.ir build ing to the rear of Kendal: Medicine Company does acetylene welding, brazing and cutv-ig as wc:l as operate a machine shop. He is a natural born mechanic, having grown up as a blacksmith at i“(.Ikvilte Eight : cats ago V came to Shelby and has been plying his trade here, getting more and more experience in all lines of machine work. His customers declare him to be one of the best in his line and he has every opportunity to be, be cause he specializes. His portable welding outfit is a great convenience because there is so much machinery that cannot be brought to the plant, but he can ride away and do a job anywhere. Mr. Ledford preferred not to have the artist sketch him for this issue, but wanted to show his portable welding outfit because his big hobby is his profession. T. P. LAIL SUCCEEDS R. M. DORSEY AT GARAGE When the artist drew the above sketch, R. M. Dorsey owned and operated the garage down on South Trade street to the roar of the Kendall Medicine Co. Since it was drawn Mr. Dorsey has caught the Florida fever and has gone to the lan d of flowers to seek his fortune. T. P. Lai! bought the Dorsey garage and while we haven’t Mr. Lail’s picture, we are showing Mr. Dorsey in order that his friends might have a picture of him when he cbmes back “rich.” Mr. Lail was born and reared hi Cleveland county and has been Work in g at local garages since 1919. He is an expert automobile mechanic and Will do general repair work, being an expert in overhauling and recon ditioning all makes of cars. His long and satisfactory experience with other garages in Shelby has won many friends and he expects a visit from th em when they have car trouble for he is a “trouble shooter” that hits the bull’s eye every time.
