ONE OF THE FUNNIEST STORIES EVER WRITTEN, “ TOO MUCH EFFICIENCY”, IN EACH ISSUEOF THE STAR. A LAUGH IN EVERY LINE. RELIABLE home paper of Shelby And The State’s Fertile Farming Section, Modern Job Department, fhe Ubelani) SHELBY’S POPULATION 1925 Census_8,854 Where Industry Joins With Climate In A Call For You, , VOL. XXXIII, No. 88 “Covers Cleveland Completely.’ SHELBY, N. C. _ FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1925 Published Monday, Wednesday and Friday Afternoons. $2.00 A YEAR IN ADVANCE Shelbys Boom as Hendersonville News Sees it Higher Up Hendersonville News: The real estate fever in Western Carolina has descended the hills as lar as Shelby, where the Cleveland Springs hotel has changed ownership -vith William Marshall and son, Alfred p. Marshall, of Clearwater, Fla., list ed among the new owners, the former ; took holders retaining an interest therein. Recent land purchases together with the Hotel property give an area oh POO acres, which is to be developed into a colony. Shelby is rapidly growing. Cleve land county is wallowing in the lap of igricultural luxury, if such can be said of any farming section. These ad vantages, with Shelby’s location in the highlands, just below the Blue Ridge mountains, will give her further Im petus in the , development of a re sort hotel property, famous for the mineral qualities of its health giving waters from a series of Sulphur Springs, noted for their efficacy for over a century. The Shelby Star prophesies as fol lows: Look ahead five years and what do you see along Highway 20 as it winds its black-strip way into the mountains of Carolina; a big resort hotel and summer colony here, Lake Lure and Chimney Rock grandeur. Hendersonville, Laurel Park, Brevard, Asheville. All easily reached from all sections of Eastern America. To see what the future will bring is of suf ficient urge to live another half-de cado at least. The past week was an impor tant one in the history of Shelby. It would be well to check the date on the calendar for-iU will be the basis of many progressive stories to be told in the years to come. The biggest stock of men’s wo men's and childrens shoes consisting of the famous “Long Wear” and “God man" makes will be found at Camp bell's. The prices are right. adv ; DR. R. C. Don Laws, the peppery editor of the \ellow Jacket attended the famous Scopes evolution trial in Dayton, Tenn., and conies home fully convinced that this country is approaching a great crisis and calls on the Christian people in the last issue of his paper to awaken before it is too late. “Friends of Christian civilization, lovers of law and decency, we appeal to you,” says Mr. Laws. “We attend ed the Scopes) trim at Dayton Tenn., and we learned th .g-, there that all our years of study of public, politi cal and social prob ■ ■ never gave us the slightest intimation Were g> ing on to destroy ail that is sacred and pure and holy in the United States of A.ner.ca. We knew con ditions were had, we knew things were headed for the rocks in many lines, but we had no idea our coun t<.v held within its borders such flag rant, daring, demoniac despicable, dirty enemies of the flag and the Bi ble as we saw with out own eyes and heard with our own ears. Men, grown men, fellow's who vote to make our laws and pdofess to be leaders in their circles, we heard walking the Main street of a calm, Christian, civ ilized community, saying ‘Moses was a liar, Christ was a bastard!’ We saw men who ow'e their freedom to Chris tian civilization sitting with a grin ning ape at the head of a banquet table, as their honored guest; we saw j preachers—God save the Divine com mission, openly denying that faith and obedience and the Bible are es sential to man’s salvation. The pity of this impending warfare is that many socalled Protestant church members and leaders are openly aligned with the Soviets, I. W. W.'s, Free Thinkers, anarchists, Free Lov ers and devils in general to wreck the last vestige of Christian civilization in free America and set up the red rag of revolution and ruin over the Stars and Stripes! “We saw Halderman-Julius there, lined up with Darrow, and who open ly declares in his widely-circulated weekly, “I do not regard adultery as immoral.’ “We saw and talked with William Jennings Bryan, long our political opponent but our patriotic friend. We heard from his lips the record of his undying devotion to the One Cause above politics, power, position or prefendment. We never realized that America had so many enemies within her borders, slowly, surely, successfully sapping her life-blood by effort^ to wreck the pure streams of intellectual and spiritual life of our citizens, especially our young peolpe. We surmise the Jewish Ke hillah ,'s back of all this movement. That immense institution, with head quarter? in New York and branches in the twelve districts which it has set up corresponding to its ‘Twelve Tribes’ in this country, with its powerful newspapers, its movie in terest, its vast propaganda machin ery and its program of Jewish su premacy of the United States, is manipulating the wires from behind the screens, and everybody whose red blood has weakened seems to be fa'ling into their mesh. “We heard Malone confess wdiat his fellow Evolutionists have not dared admit. He said: “We wish in the beginning to state that we’—he was speaking as the leg al representative of the Evolution movement—‘believe there is a direct conflict between the theory of evolu tion and the theories of creation as set ierth in the Book of Genesis. With a young heart, a young hus band fresh from the civil war. and a wagon and team, Mrs, Annie Cope la n. of Madison, a bride of 180" set out on a wedding trip the like of which she, as probably man others to day, see in the movies.
