Survey lor I unncl In tlie opinion of Chairman Frank Page of the State Highway Com mission, a circular tunnel under the Cape Fear River at Wilmington would lie preferable to a bridge across the river at the point desired by the city authorities. The General authorized a bond issue of $1,000,000 which is half a million short of the estimated cost of a bridge. Cost of the tunnel is placed at one million. The Com missioner has ordered a complete survey of both propositions with the view to reaching a course which may prove the wiser. Engineers differ rs to the cost of putting up the steel spans for a bridge and also as to whether the foundation will be of suf ficient strengtli to bear the weight of the huge supporters that will be necessary to make the structure “safe and secure.’’ From Tuesday until Saturday the home demonstration agents of the State Agricultural Experiment Ser vice have been in action at the State College of (Agriculture and Engi neering laying plans for the years work.
