LeGrand Enter tarn i Presbyterian Circle The ladies of the Presbyterian Circle held a most delgihtful meet ing at the' home of Mrs. R. T. Le Grand on Monday afternoon at 3:3o o’clock. It was in the form of social meeting and this being “Loyalty Week” many interesting talks were made by the members. Mrs. LeGraml served tempting refreshments. The rooms were lovely with their palms, and ferns and cut flowers and a most delightful time was spent by the mem bers. ! Important Library Meeting Held. One of the most interesting and enjoyable meetings the U. D. C's ever held was that one on Tuesday after noon at 3:30 o’clock February 0th, wfcen this splendid bodv of Women celebrated the twenty fifth anniver sary of its organisation. The meet ing was called to order by the Vice president, who is acting in the p.-e eidonts’ p'ace Mrs. Mauney. Mrs. Dudley called for the minutes of last meeting and the roll call after which a bus’nsss session was held, and much business was transacted, and letters read. Mrs. W. B. Nix gave a mos* delightful ami interesting talk on the District meeting held at Ral eigh the past month. Shelby is just ly proud of Mrs. Nix she being a most proficient officer. Mrs. Dudley then appointed a committee of three to serve on the Gettysburg Fund, they being Mrs. Frank Hocy, chair man, Mrs. Frank Roberts and Mrs. O. Max Gardner. Mrs. Fred Wagner and Mrs. E. B. Lattimore a commit tee on the Woodrow Wilson Fund and, another committee composing the following to look after The Cross of Service Distribution, Mrs. Jean Schenck, Mrs. S. R. Riley and Mrs. Frank Hoey. At the conclusion of the business session the program was turned over to Mrs. S. A. McMurry, and Miss Mamie Roberts, they being the committee for this meeting. Mrs. McMurry opened with a beau tiful prayer after which the members stood and sang America. Mrs. Ry bum then told of the organization of the U. D. C’s which Chapter was or ganized at her home 25 years ifgo by Mrs. I. W. Faison of Charlotte, w:th about eighteen members pre sent. The first officers were, Mrs. Robert Miller President, Mrs. W. B. After her talk she presented to the Chapter a gavel made by the late T. K. Barnett, with his pen knife, he being a gallant Confederate soldier. He presented it to Mrs. Ryburn when she was a president. The next on the program Was a beautiful violin selection Auld Lang Syne played exquisitely by Mrs. John Schenek' Jr. This was followed by interesting newspaper clippings pertaining to the U. D. C’s and the'r work in the past, read by Miss Emma I'V-k. Mrs. Ben £>uttle closed the delightful program by singing, “Music of the South”, Her sweet voice was never heard to a better advantage and she was accompanied with a violin obligato by Mrs. John Schenek Jr. The Chapter was indebted to Mrs. Me Murry and Miss Mamie Roberts and the members on th? program for an afternoon of rare enjoyment. Mrs. Will Arey and M'ss Mattie Adams served a most delicious ice and sweet course with hot coffee and nuts. Two nnw members were taken in they were Miss Stella Muroheson and Mrs. D. A. Tedder.
