Under this plan, the blood donors after being: examined and classified, will be listed and n list will be placed at the Central Registry for Doctors and Nurses and one at each hospital ip St. Louis. No Loss of Life “During the summer months when medical schools are not in session, there is difficulty in obtaining sub j^bts,” Dr. Singer continued. “Al! over the city doctors have been un able to obtain the right donor at the proper moment and in many cases have had to see their patients die for want of blood. “Loss of life on this account will be a thing of the past when this plan is in operation. We feel sure that hundreds of persons will respond to the call with an offer to be on the l.st of donors for emergency." Only half a pint of blood is taken from the donor for a transfusion and this amount it is said, is not injur ious if not done more often than every one two or three months. Laboratory tests of the donors will be made m the Bethesda Hospital, City Hospital, Barnes Hospital, St. Luke Hospital the Jewish Hospital, Children’s Hospital and the Barnard Skin and Cancer Hospital. Leaders in the movement hope to encourage many to have their names placed on a list of free donors. Asheville’s Railroad Hopes The Asheville Timer reports that the Chamber of Commerce of that city is negotiating with both the Seaboard Air L.ne and the Louisville & Nashville to make track extensions into the mountain city, and The Times understands that the roads are in clined to “favorable consideration.” It is apparent under developing con ditions that extensions of the kind will be necessitated within a short time and it is known that the Seaboard has had under decision the advant ages of an extension of the road from Rutherfordton, according to the plans of the original builders of the line. More recently, in view of the Florida boom and its transfer ence to western North Carolina this season, there has been renewed talk m connection with the Seaboard ex tension. The Observer’s information is that President Warfield is anxious to make the proposed extension, but there seems to be a traffic arrange ment with the Southern which stands somewhat in the way. If the Sea board and the Southern can work out a new deal agreeable to both roads, the way may be opened to the long-desired extension westward of the Seaboard. If this work is started it will be, probably, in connection with the building of the Seaboard link from McBee to Monroe, so as to give a through line from Florida into the mountain sections of this State. It is a fair prospect that developing business will bring into materializa tion the new connections Asheville is desiring before many months.—Char lotte Observer.
