petti ram State.'. Hir. Petition On All Issues l„ Behalf of His Candidacy For Senate. TO THE VOTERS OF CLEVFLAM rOUN'TY:— Several weeks ago i announce*.) my candidacy for the office of State Seiv a;nr from this district. The office i, : financial loss to anyone that get. li i. i would appreciate the hono- ot •, >e position, as I stated in my yrii •_ nal announcement, and the opportuni ty make additional acquaintauc and friendships over the state, ! u t that offices of this hind should he - ven to ambitious, worthy young men who hope to make it a stepping stone in something greater in life. Cleve land county would not now have ;hy leading and only candidate for C5ey i rno.r had he been defeated in h \ ounger days when a candidate for the .State Senate. Fathers ami mothers in this coun ty are denying themselves the com forts of life in order to keep their s< res and (laughters in school, with a hope that some (lay they wilt hold position* of honor and importance. If *h« young men of the country are never to get a chance to assert themselves, then you had better take your hi / < o'.of school and put him back behind the plow handles. Every person that announces for office has a motive in view, or those v,ho put him out have a purpose ir, iew. I have stated why I am askin* you to give me this office. And 1 also want to say that I have not he? q rejected by any of the Political Boss, os to go to Raleigh and do their b; ! (hug. I have a mind of my own. Ai d will vote on all questions according to the dictates of my own conference os to what I think is for the best in: 1 - ( ts of the people. The position of State Senator is an office that requires the services of a man of some legislative experience and ability. He will have to meet aim cope with some of the ablest lawyer* in the. state. He should be able to take care of himself and the people f his district on any question that m. y arise in discussion on the floor of i: Senate. He must have some person! acquaintance and reputation over Ha state before he can get any impor ant committee appointments or recog nition in the Senate. Tt is therefore to Hie interest of the people that they elect a man who will be able to c'.v something, for them. I feel that 1 can meet all of the above requirements. And if I did not so feel, 1 would net a: f°r your ouppdi* in this clcrti *n.
