Mr. Stevens is a son-in law of L. M. Hull of this city. His friends here wall be interested to know of the lecture on the air. —Golf Tourney—A golf tourna ment incident to the opening of a new nine hole course is on today and tomorrow ac, Cleveland Springs estates. Quite a number of Shelby golfers have entered th" event playing for the two cups offered, one being for the low score in the qualifying rounds and the other for the best handicap score in the regular rounds. —Dr. Dodd to Preach—Dr. Zeno Wall, pastor of the First Baptist church here is making announce ment that Dr. M. E. Dodd of Shreveport, La., will preach at iha First Baptist church, Gastonia, at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, Octo ber 17th. Dr. Dodd is pastor of one of the largest Southern Baptist churches and is regarded as a leader in the denomination. His subject will be “lloiy Ghost Re ligion.” Quite a number of Shelby people will go over to hear him. M:\ and Mrs. Tom Abernethy ard Mr. and Mrs. Roland Elam motor ed to Charlotte Wednesday to see "Rose Marie.” Burglars have carried off many of the crown jewels of Siam from the royal palace at Bangkok. The robbery is regarded by the natives as peculiarly audacious, as the jewels were supposed to be guard ed by the ghosts of the dead kings and queens. Claude Webb announces he has secured “The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” for a two-day showing next week at the Webb theatre. There could be no better kws for local cinema fans. This play is one of the half dozen very best ever shown. Lately, since Ru dolph Valentino’s death, it has been revived—having been made in 1919, and is now breaking at tendance records all over the coun try, the big Capitol theatre in New York is turning them away. It >s a war story, from the book of the same name by Ibanea. It is a film comparable in sweep and style to “The Birth of a Nation.” An epic. Today (Friday) the Webb is showing “The Marriage Clause-’ with Francis X. Bushman and Billy Dove. Bushman is a fine actor and is popular, and so is Miss Dove.
